Help! Failed Steering Wheel Change

I've been an impatient putz!

Got my new Nappa and chrome steering wheel, watched the how-to video four times, had the instructions to hand.

Removed the battery negative and left for 10 mins.

First problem:

I cannot get the inner wheel and bag to undo. I put the flat headed tool into the holes and can't find a spring release. The tool goes in and I feel around. I push. Nothing. On either side.

What have I done wrong?

Second problem:

I give up. Reconnect battery. Start engine to check all is well.

And get this! Suspension failure.

I've not disconnected any electrical item other than the battery. A man ain't truly been insulted until he stands buck naked in front of a woman and she didn't even notice. Or care.

Can't help with the first part (which video?), but second part is normal after battery disconnect.

Start car and turn steering wheel lock to lock, Christmas tree lights and messages should disappear, maybe also after a little drive.

Have "RSW All Comms" in Hampshire - happy to help Smile

That's a relief.

It was the video on Powerful's website. The YouTube one. A man ain't truly been insulted until he stands buck naked in front of a woman and she didn't even notice. Or care.

i had the same issue doing my steering wheel fit this should help u

these pics may help u

Parts required.
1) Small 6-8 inch Allen head used to remove airbag or a thin blunted off screw driver
IMPORTANT! YOU MUST DISCONNECT THE ROVER BATTERY BEFORE starting this You want to be 90 degrees, perpendicular to the steering column. You want to push in the spring release to pop off the airbag. The photos below show the spring. Inside the steering wheel is a little "guide" that should help you go into the right direction

If you look directly into the hole in the middle of the spring, you will see a release tab. It is this tab that holds the airbag into place. The airbag will only move a little until you release the other side.

Gents, as always, a massive thanks!

Can't do anything until next week, but i'll give it another try as soon as I can. A man ain't truly been insulted until he stands buck naked in front of a woman and she didn't even notice. Or care.

An update to this:

Got back early from our weekend to get my 110 fettled some more, so headed outside for Take 2.

Found the Allen key method more successful. Thumbs Up

Had to call the father-in-law to bring round the correct Torx bit to get the wheel back off and onto the new one. Naturally, my RR was blocking my other cars... Embarassed

And the end result. I'm really happy with it!

Thanks again for your help, chaps.
