Navcoder connection

Hi all,

I've done a search but can't find what I'm looking for.

I've just got a BMW Diagnostic USB lead, which says its tested with Navcoder ;

http://www.bmwcable.com/

but I can't get any results from using the unregistered version of Navcoder.

I've done an update, with the beta box ticked, and Navcoder seems to recognise the lead when I connect it as COM1.

When I try and scan for vehicle id or service bits, it just says "No response from vehicle", but it seems to detect data......

I've been mucking about with this for nearly 3 hours now....

Are we saying that Navcoder will only actually work if you register it ?

I have no problem registering it, but I'd like to know it talks to the Rangie first.

I'm using the obd2 port on the car, which apparently the latest version of Navcoder can use........

Any ideas gratefully received.

Cheers

you should be able to 'see' things with the demo version....obviously to adjust stuff you need to purchase the full version..

there are a few you tube vids of how to use the software...

I think, by a combination of rebooting and reinstalling drivers, that its working.

I'm pretty sure I'm now using the driver that came on the disk with the cable, rather than a later one Windows Update put on..........

It has sucessfully talked to my ULF and supplied the correct Bluetooth passkey, so I shall invest in the full version of Navcoder, so I can enable voice recognition........

Many thanks

Well, I got my Navcoder registration key this morning, so went out to the car to attempt to enable voice recognition, and I can't get any response from the vehicle to Navcoder again.

I'm pretty sure the lead is good (it gives a red light when plugged into the car), and its my laptop, as I read things about it has to be on com 1, but com 1 is used, I then change drivers, and change them back, and try com 5, as thats where it gets added when I reinstall the drivers...... I reboot, I connect to the car whilst the ignition is on, and with it off, I start navcoder after I've connected to car, and before. Who knows what the hell you are supposed to do.

So its still not talking to the car, and I'm pretty livid now, as I've now flattened the car battery, so I won't be going anywhere today.

Peachy.

Why can't it just work...........?

To be fair, I'm gonna have to roll back my laptop, and start again, as I've added obd2 software, and RSW All Comms and the BMW lead and Navcoder, and they all seem to want to use the same ports, with perhaps different settings.

When it did work for a brief period last night, I had a little pop from the drivers door speaker when I connected to the obd2 socket. I don't get that now, which leads me to believe the usb on the laptop isn't set properly again........

I've had enough now.

IIRC you need to look in device manager to see which com ports are being assigned and you can then assign them in Navcoder (you have to refresh in Navcoder each time you start the program). Make sure you always plug the cable into the same USB port as this reduces the chances of the com port being re-assigned to a different number.

Also, you might want to follow the connection procedure as used with the All Comms lead and software which give a connection everytime:

Start laptop.
Plug in USB cable (Does Windows Chime)
Start All Comms software. (replace with Navcoder)
Start vehicle.
Plug in OBDII cable.

I use Navcoder through a Resler iBus interface and to connect up I start the car, then the PC with the resler connected, then start up Navcoder, and refresh the port.

Do it always with engine running, save your battery Smile .

Thanks for replying.

I seem to get 1 way comms........or perhaps I'm not understanding Navcoders display.

I get the blue bar at the side of the "COM x" moving from left to right, and the number after it counts up.

So it's seeing something, but the live data display doesn't update.

Do you have whats scanned set to "Auto", or "I/K Bus" or is it "D Bus", which will def be wrong..?

It appeared to jump into life again, after reinstalling the driver yet again, and whilst it was connected to the car.

I've enabled my voice recognition, which has worked, and changed the follow me home lights to be the fogs instead of xenons.

Navcoder looks really good.

I shall experiment more with it when I have a few days to wait for the comms to work........... !!

The car now starts, and the battery is still charging, but I'm pretty sure the fuel gauge isn't moving now.

Will see..............

Thanks
