Handbrake sleeve- glue or not?

I recently put a new gloss black sleeve on, it doesn't have a clip like the original sleeve and slides off easily. I have tried whacking it on but still comes off.. Any ideas how to keep it on? Is glue a bad idea? Would I ever need to take the sleeve off down the line?

Thanks

If it's a reasonably tight sliding fit already, then it's worth trying the ploy used to stick handlebar grips on motorbikes.

Liberally coat the inside of the sleeve with hairspray - then, while it's still wet, slide on the sleeve and leave it alone for a while. The solvents in the hairspray will evaporate and the remaining "gunge" will stick the sleeve on. Can be removed if ever you need to with a hairdryer...
