Best offroad/winter tyres for 20" wheels?

I thought I'd ask as I don't think I've seen a definitive answer.

I do quite a bit of shooting and need something good in mud and on grass. I'd also like them to be good on snow.

I do a fair bit of shooting myself and use Vredestein Wintracs from October till April and find them to be brilliant on all surfaces especially icy roads ...also been in some really muddy fields with them and never once came close to getting stuck. Range Rover has amazing electronic technology which allows primarily road based tyres do things that matches more off road type tyres that are used on lesser 4x4 vehicles Thumbs Up

Thanks. They look good and seem to get good reviews too. They do look a bit more road orientated (principally snow rather than mud) - are there any suggestions if I wanted to go more offroad/rugged?

I hear good things about Cooper Leon LTZ and Nitto Terra Grapplers

However neither of these tyres come in the correct size.
Apparently, you need to buy:
275 55 20 nitto terra grappler
285 50 20 cooper zeon ltz

As Rangies are fitted normally with 255 50 20 tyres, this is not ideal. As I understand it, the 285 50 Coopers are about an inch taller than standard. This changes the speedo reading. however, the speedo is correct with these tyres, as the normal size read under-speed. I think you also need to push away some of the wheel liners to prevent rubbing.

The 275 55 nittos are about two inched taller and the speedo reads slightly under 31 mph on sat nav to 30 on the speedo.

What do people think about these tyres and are they any good in snow?

Any other alternatives?

I don't have experience of Cooper tyres on a FF, but have a set of the somewhat more aggressive STT's on my 110. Different tread, admittedly, but the same compound.

I've found Cooper's to be excellent in all conditions. Clearly, STT's will be good in mud, but they've been excellent in snow and also rain. Si. <This is my name.

@ Gaz - They do look the dog's danglies - like you're about to do the Camel Trophy.

Not sure I really want to go fiddling around under the wheel arches though.

i run 285 50 20 coopers. they fit straight on later wheels and sport wheels. if you use early 20 inch alloys you need 5 mm spacers as the tyre rubs on the front strut.

You should be OK with later wheels.....

I use Wintrac Xtremes on 19" wheels through the winter months and use the 20" in the Summer. Best of both worlds - makes the car even more capable. Mike - MPx
