TPMS

I have just acquired a new set of wheels and it looks like they are fitted with TPMS.

Will the car recognize them or does it need to be told?

Ian

Post 2006 vehicles will recognise new TPMS sensors, but you need to go for a 15mile drive. Not sure about pre 2006. This does assume that the batteries in the TMPS sensores have not gone flat. I think ther may have been a change of sensor around 2010 and I don't think they are compantible with 2006 to 2010 system. I think the 2002 TPMS system uses different sensors to the 2006 onwards. 56 TDV8 Vogue SE

The post 2006s will recognize wheels that are turning. I read that the dealer gizmos need to be used to 'introduce' the car to the spare tyre. I don't know whether temporarily installing the spare after the car recognizes the four regular tyres will work, but if you don't have easy/cheap access to the gizmo, it may be worth a shot.

Put your spare on as a road wheel first, it will/should self-learn all new sensors fitted to an axle on the 2006-2009 system, mine did. Then put your spare back in the boot and put your 'permanent' road wheel back on. Thumbs Up

edit: Just seen your car is 2011, so above may not be applicable Exclamation

Fitted all five wheels yesterday and went for a run but nothing happened.

Tried to select the menu option for changing the pressures but it is not available on the menu.

Longer run today, away for the weekend with the van, so will see what happens.

Nothing appeared on the dash at any time so I reckon the car has not detected the wheels.

Did not really want it anyway.

Ian, just to clarify, is the TPMS warning light illuminated on the dash? 2007 TDV8 Vogue SE Java Black

Is TPMS a nuisance on an already complicated car ?

I'm asking as it may well be (or not !) on my next car . . .

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

If your buying brand new next time, you'll probably find it is.
Recently read something about it being compulsory on all new vehicles in the very near future...
Have a look:

No warnings on the dash and no menu option to change the pressure setting.

It looks like you have the TPMS disabled. You would have a low pressure warning light if it was enabled and the sensors weren't recognised 2007 TDV8 Vogue SE Java Black
