Disintegrating Tyre Valve - 2007 Supercharged

Today for the first time, I went to the nearest tyre machine.

Started on rear offside tyre and noticed the valve looked old.. put the tyre inflation connector on the valve and it partially disintegrated.. resulting in more air escaping than being put in.

It's a common issue with the TPMS valves. These are made of aluminum and don't get replaced when tyres are done. They suffer with salt and electrolytic corrosion as you might expect and the only cure is to replace them.

Count yourself lucky. Most of us manage to snap off the whole thing which allows all the air to escape and leaves you reaching for a jack & wheel brace.

Best advice would be to ditch the TPMS sensors and valves, then get an IIDTool and turn the damn things off! Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

'Dont get replaced'... Too tight to replace them?

No, because if they're not broke, they don't fix them!

You should seriously think about removing them altogether, I don't recall anybody having anything good to say about them! Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

No, I mean they don't get replaced when tyres are changed because of long life design. Sometimes the valve core is changed but the TPMS sensors have batteries and solid valve stems which theoretically are good for 7 years. Otherwise you'd be looking at a new TPMS sensor with each new tyre, not a small amount of money.

Like Alan said, replace them with standard rubber items, turn off the TPMS and your life will be much more peaceful.

At full price I expect cost v hassle isn't worth it...
However I bought a brand new set of 4 off eBay at £31 (had to chase seller to supply nuts).

All work perfectly. Notice that these ones appear to be plastic rather than the horrendous alloy.

Mine did fail at petrol station, catastrophic loss of air Big Cry Alcohol and eBay is never a good mix
