We live in the Lake Tahoe area located in the Sierra Mountains. As such, we get our fair share of snow. I have a RRS, as well as a FFRR, both of which now have All Season tires.

In years past, I used the Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow year round on the RRS. The handling, during summer and spring was not compromised. What I did experience was a more "rapid" tire wear due to the soft rubber compound. Additionally, as they wore, the road (tire) noise was a bit aggravating.

With that said, the Pirelli's were simply unbeatable in the snow and ice conditions. The All Season's, however, in spite of their high rating on the Tire Rack do not compare on the snow and ice. 2012 Range Rover HSE LUX

Pirelli Scorpians are the factory recommended fit on many Range Rovers why wouldn't you use them year round Question

Scorpions aren't dedicated winter tyres - they are all season

They do a Scorpion Ice and Snow - have you got those ?

There are people who run them all year, but grip would be reduced in hot weather and more importantly, stopping distances increased

Ultimately they won't perform as well on the warmer days of summer - however, they are only something like 10% down on summer tyres - however, in the winter, the summer tyres are down something like 40% on the winters - and you're much more likely to find the limits in the winter.

They're probably a little noisier too.

If I had to, I'd rather run winters all year than summers.

I'm running my winter goodyears now, but only because they're below 4.5mm which is the minimum for winter. just wearing them down then I'll put some new ones on and if it's not winter yet I'll put my summer tyres back on.

You can run winters in summer and the compromise isn't so great. Running summers in winter is a big compromise.

I have been running winter tyres on two cars now for about 8 years, the wear is not more then on a normal tyre
yes they are a bit more noisy, but with the RR diesel not noticable

what is noticable is the added safety when you are comming into a massiv downpour or rain, as the weather is getting more freaky by the day, its much more reliable to have the extra grip with the wintertyres

one big downside is, the cost of replacing them in the summer Big Cry - as there is not much choice the price is high - just keep that in mind
