Daft wheel question

Please could someone explain how a wheel goes together. I'm looking to buy a winter set. If I buy a set of rims, and a set of tyres, is that all I need? Could I then just get a mobile fitter to come and assemble? What about valves?

Thanks

Buy appropriate set of rims, buy suitable tyres.
Have fitter come to you, if he will, he will fit tyres, valves.
Otherwise take rims and tyres to local garage and ask if they will fit them for you. Most will for a Fee. Thumbs Up

Don't forget balancing.

Oh, and most people go for black tyres, so I would specify those.

Thanks Kurt. I was considering a nice lilac Smile

Thanks guys, it was just the valve bit that was puzzling me.

If you're existing wheels have regular black rubber valves, then any tyre fitter has those.

However, if they are all metal, then you will need to buy some from your RR dealer (or eBay)

For winter tyres, what size rims are you currently running? And what model are they fitted?

Thanks Alistair. They're regular black rubber. I'm planning on using Event Tyres to deliver and fit at home. They seem to offer a fully inclusive service.

I now have a set of Style 18s to fit on my MY12 L322. Planning on fitting Conti CrossContact Winter or Pirelli Ice & Snow.

Current wheels are factory fitted Style 17s. So both wheels sets are 20".

I take it these are the 20'' rims? IMHO i would personally go for the Pirelli winter tyres over the Conti's I have had Conti's on my sport SC and the FF SC, and have found them totally c Censored as well as excessive edge wear which is common and realistically unacceptable on a tyre that costs at least £220 best.

Other than that, buy a spare set of cheap 20'' rims and fit something like Cooper Zeons (i think they are 285/45/20) I stand to be corrected. Much more suited to M+S for winter

Thanks for that. The Pirellis do seem to get reviewed well, and are approved by LR I think.

Yes totally. I would go for those, or as I suggested the spare set. The Coopers are good and seem to get good reviews.
