Another 'HDC inactive & Air Susp. Inactive' thread....

As luck would have it a few hours before departing on a much needed easter break I get bong bong bong flashy flashy dashy Crying or Very sad

My local 4x4 specialist offered me a fault code read & clear but thats all he could manage at that time, due to being full of work, so I got it over to them pronto. Funny that when they started it to drive it into the workshop it didn't bong bong bong, always the way. The mechanic plugged in the fault code reader and he said there were all sorts of errors that were due to the battery being disconnected. (I had it changed to new Bosch 6 months ago). He said it looked like the main problem was an error from 'the steering angle sensor' so he re calibrated it, cleared all faults and set me on my way.

Couple of hours later before loading for departure bong bong bong etc.....Great Mad

The compressor sounds different than normal (I think), the ride height is locked to 'normal', the motor is sitting level and able to maintain 'normal' height as it dips slightly and then raises itself again, so I decided to push on and drive the 150 miles needed to get me to where I needed to be. I didn't drive over 50 mph with all the lights and warnings flashing away at me but it managed the journey with no problem Smile

My question here is am I damaging it by driving it when in this state ?

Should I keep the driving down to a minimum / certain speed ?

If it drops on a corner or entirely onto the bump stops what should I do ?

I do have RAC cover but all they could do would be take me home and my easter break would go down the toilet Big Cry

Should be OK if locked at normal height and holding there, but your caution with regard to speed is a good one, if only for your safety and that of your passengers should an air bag go pop!

Unless it is the SAS causing the faults, sounds like your compressor has had it or you have a leak somewhere in the air system, probably a bag, which may be holding OK due to being at normal height, or compressor working overtime.

So for me, the choice is yours, either keep on until the problem really manifests itself, or stop now and get recovered and let your indie at it.

Do not drive if a corner drops or you hit the bump stops, that really will cause some damage, or make safe driving difficult.

May be worth a soapy water test to check for bubbles, although really need off road height for that? .

I have had the same problem. My car had been stood for 10 days, started and got the dread bong with susp inactive. It's locked out in normal height.
I am hoping the battery voltage is to blame, it's the original battery. I have also recently had regular trans failsafe message, HDC inactive etc. I will take to my local dealer for diagnosis. 2012 4.4TDV8 VSE

hdc/suspension inactive

Hi all,
Just to add to this topic. had the same. Pixies f Censored g around with the chimes, hdc inactive/suspension inactive. Read and cleared faults only for the pixies to wake up again 15-20mins into driving.
Took to my local indie and told that the steering angle sensor was shot. Booked ff in and left 360.00 lighter in the wallet region.

All running like a dream again Thumbs Up . No doubt some more pixies will hatch and cause mischief in the future but that's to be expected with lr's. If you don't know what you're doing - do it quickly!

Hi 666tur.

You wrote back in April, "I have had the same problem. My car had been stood for 10 days, started and got the dread bong with susp inactive. It's locked out in normal height.
