Wobble ...

Hello, drove the FF today, first time for a week. Cranked up the fbh 20 mins before leaving. Started no problem, drove for a couple of miles, duel carriage way, 50mph. After 10 mins got onto motorway 60-70mph a couple more mins then started to wobble, felt like the wheels were going to fall off. Slowed down to around 50 still wobbling. Lasted for a minute or so then went, no problem then for 40 miles up the motorway at 70-75mph. Happened last week as well when my left front suspension was up !! Anything to do with Left front height sensor fault I had last week ?
Any ideas

i'm thinking if it was a dodgy abs sensor then you might get an intermittent fault...

i suppose you've check the obvious like the wheel nuts ..

Drove the FF home down the motorway 50 miles at 75mph ish no problem at all. Just my normal steering wheel shaking I've always had. Checked for faults, all clear. Checked my nuts Shocked all ok Thumbs Up no height sensor fault either. Having the 4 wheel alignment done tomorrow so it may be that.

Possibly some deposits on the discs from standing for a week.

If its gone and the wheels are still attached...... Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

i had similar wobble and it was my front left (nearside) brake caliper sticking. The rubber gromit inside had perished and causing it to stick. only wobbled at 50mph to 65mph.

Is it possible that having the car sitting for a week is the cause?

i've experienced similar vibrations after leaving cars sitting and have put it down to the tyre compounds.

if the rubber is in the same place for a while and the temperature drops, then the rubber could start to lose its shape.

Once you move off and the tyre heats up, it regains its roundness........but not before you get vibration from the mis-shaped tyre.

Or should i cut back on my whisky consumption?

Ok I had the 4 wheel alignment done today. Going one way on the front and the other way on the back Rolling Eyes . But all done now and felt good on the way home, steering straight. £50 not bad I thought. Still don't think it was the cause of the wobble tho. Could it be anything to do with the air suspension when going into motorway height ?
I've got to fire down the motorway tomorrow morning so will report back my findings.... Tbc

Ok Im still getting this wheel wobble. It's the same time on the motorway every time. I'll start the FF and pop 1 mile along the duel carriageway to pick up a mate, a couple more miles of duel carriageway, start stop to get onto the motorway. Then usually it's been 15-20 mins since start up. A couple of miles along the motorway 50-60 mph and the wobble happens, lasts for around 1/2 a mile then goes. Seems to be wobblier tho ! Do 40-50 mile trip, a bit of work for 5-6 hours then back down the motorway. Nothing at all, good as gold cruising down the road.
It usually happens when I've left it for 5-7 days without driving. I'll sometimes get the hdc inactive message on startup but that goes straight away ??
Any ideas what this could be ?
Steve

I know it may sound daft, but could it be the 'motorway rut'. The track left by artics as they trundle up and down the motorway. History - Glutton for Punishment
