Try GEMM at Larbert - they are non franchise Land Rover specialists.

GEMM contact details are email - workshop@GEMM4x4.co.uk
phone - 01324 557735
Ask for George Maclay (owner) or Bobby Gunn

The workshop is at Railway Cottage, Larbert, FK5 3NN

With regard to other outlets you could ask over on the Scottish Land Rover Owners Club forum at http://www.slroc.co.uk/forum/index.php (they aren't averse to questions about modern landies there as many members have one in addition to an older Land Rover)

I have had lots of dealings with GEMM - they do all the repairs and maintenance on my Defender and I know they work on offroad racers and modern high performance Land Rovers Like Disco3/RRS and L322's.

There is another service outlet closer to you:
Alex Lindsay
* Address: Axwel House, Westerton Road, East Mains Industrial Estate, Broxburn, West Lothian, Scotland
* Telephone: 01506 854 827
However I have no experience of them and a search in google shows they do restoration and repairs.

There is another outlet BartTech in Airdrie too but again I have no experience, even further afield is highly regarded Strathearn or Strathnairn Engineering at Auchterarder Now the FFRR has morphed into a 2012MY RREvoque Dynamic Lux Plus Auto SD4 Coupe in Fuji White with full ebony interior

To add to Tim's excellent list of info there is also Mike Aitken 4x4 near Ladybank in Fife 01337 831114
He is an independent Land Rover specialist and has done some work for me on my last Disco2 and my FFRR.
New twin electrics for my existing FFRR towbar was almost half the £300 main dealer quote.

Before you go any further, what makes you think that you actually NEED to replace these items? Is it just because some stealer has quoted you for a job that you assume it is really needing done?

Brake pads are a relatively easy DIY job. Brake discs require a couple of more bolts to be released beyond doing the pads. It's not rocket science and, a lot of the time, it doesn't actually need to be done at all. Just be sure you're not being taken for a fool.

FWIW, I would probably manage to do all 4 corners with pads and discs in my driveway in about an hour.

Note that the genuine Brembo pads are not cheap (circa £130 for the fronts) but the rears are about a third of this (circa £40). There are new sensor wires in the boxes with the pads. I don't know how much the discs are but I'd suspect getting everything for about £300-350 tops! The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom Smile

John, I agree with you on the "is it necessary front"! Over on RRS there are plenty of stories of guys with dealerships wanting to replace Brembo brake components unnecessarily - maybe mbdj should go for a second opinion. In three years of TDv8 RRS ownership I never needed any replacement Brembo components except a replacement rear disc which was done under warranty. Now the FFRR has morphed into a 2012MY RREvoque Dynamic Lux Plus Auto SD4 Coupe in Fuji White with full ebony interior

I've done the pads on my 2009 TDV8 at 18k miles myself. Disks were perfectly fine but I suspect 'some' stealers would have automatically changed the discs, and charged a premium at the same time. Rolling Eyes The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom Smile

thanks everyone for your quick reply's the discs have groves top and bottom but they work fine so i thought i would ask the local dealer for a price to change discs and pads front and rear going to phone around some of the names mentioned to see if it can be done cheaper thanks again.

I just had my discs and pads replaced by Lookers at Bishops Stortford for £775 after an independent told me they needed to be replaced. The independent wanted £40 more for the same job. Thankfully I got through a 1800 mile drive around France before the brakes started to crunch. Paul

Like JMC says, if they need done then do them yourself. Basic tools and a trolley jack are all that's required.

Call Nick at Yeovil Land Rover for the parts. Sponsors over on D3 and proper prices to forum members. Mail order no problem either.

Last time I checked on my D3 (which are RRS Brembo parts) is was about 400 quid for all 4 corners, discs and pads with sensors and clips etc.

Unless you really are made of money I really wouldn't have a garage do this work. It's too easy to do yourself to throw away cash. Just think of it as 2 free tanks of fuel and an hour's work seems quite fair in deed. Give a man a gun and he can rob a bank. Give a man a bank and he can rob the world.
