England 2014 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Loire Blue

I've had several big engined cars on LPG and I always used to reset the trip on every fill up and worry when this tank full did ten miles less than that one etc...

Then I changed tack and now don't bother to check at all, I like it, I drive it, when it's empty I fill it up...

A total change of attitude to it and i feel so much better now...

Well, apart from waiting for the next bit on the car to break!!!! Pete

Had a long run down to stansted airport this weekend (120 miles each way). On the way down to the airport I was running a little late so drove at about 75 - 80mph which returned a 14.5mpg average. I filled tank before returning home and then drove back at 65mph which returned a 19mpg average.

Just goes to show how much more fuel the ffrr uses when driving a little faster. My car used 9 litres less on the return journey when driving at 65mph. 2004 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 v8 LPG, Java Black, 22' Hawke Alloys, Black Beast

Crikey I have a 90 lt tank which accepts around 70 lt max - I can get 210 if I am really really lucky - I believe that works out to around 28mpg (petrol equivalent)- 300 must be getting on for 40mpg how on earth do you do that?

I ran p38s with log for 10 years in general the 4.6 v8 gave about 200 miles for 70l of gas now my 4.2 s/c I run on petrol (thinking of log) but I am getting in the region of 18mpg across the board thats 6k miles and I am usually in the fast lane. So log would be very cheap driving for a big fastish car.

Hi,

I pay about 67p per litre (Asda Linwood) and I get 190 miles per tank which works out at 25p per mile. The car reckons it averages at 16mpg. My system also starts on petrol until it warms up (< 1 mile) so it probably uses another few pence per mile.

300 mile on a tank of gas ?

mine also starts on petrol takes 1 mile also to switch over
i have a 90l tank witch accepts 76l of gas,others only take 70l. that needs to be taken into account also(i took the multivalve out of the tank and adjusted the float to give me a bit more than the required 80%fill)

also had the best system(in my opinion)fitted that gives the least trouble/best performance with good economy,(least trouble is the most important to me)

an LPG vehicle needs also to be in top running order with the right plugs,filter ect fitted to get the best out of LPG
dont economize on the system and fitting and you will be rewarded with economy

i have run LPG for 20 years now on all my V8's
better the car+better the system = better the economy is what i have found over the years

I've a 90 litre tank and usually get 230-260 miles per tank, and that includes some london driving.

Just completed a nice long Kent to Dundee, via Glasgow and Edinburgh in my 58sc. I've got a BRC system with a 95 litre tank which in real life holds around 77 litres. I averaged on the motorway 240 miles to a tank costing around £54 so am very happy. On the way up I even found a place in Birmingham selling LPG for 56p a litre, was worth the 15 mile detour off the motorway.

To put the cost into perspective my father has a nearly new Passat diesel. He filled up in Dundee for £90 and when he got home his tank was all but empty after 530 miles. I live round the corner from him and also filled up in Dundee from half full 66.9p, then the lake district 64.9p and again on the M25 66.9p near Heathrow. When I got home I had 3/4 of a tank of LPG left.

I am therefore suggesting that my 3 ton luxury brick only cost just over £20 more to cover the same distance than his super efficient oil burner at a steady 75mph with the odd blast to remind bmw and merc drivers of the power.

I may have had to stop more times for fuel, but then again while i'm filling the car tank i'm usually also in need of emptying my own tank. Current:

I have had my FFRR for just over 1 month now and have adjusted my driving style slightly for the auto box changes.
I am still on the original tank (1/4 remaining) of unleaded that i filled up at £1.30 per litre shell.
The original first fill of LPG cost £52.10 for the 90 litre tank - at £0.65 per litre
I can now only fill it to max which costs £46 - £48 until pump stops, think this is temperature based - cold originally.

I watch the LPG less regularly and average range is 240 miles per tank from totally full till the red led begins flashing, originally thought i had transmission problems due to engine kangarooing as it ran out of LPG, then realised after reading instructions that i needed to press the LED button again for auto transfer - relief !!!!

I do enjoy giving it a good press of the throttle just to laugh at these kids faces, with their cars that have been magnetised then driven thro the Halfords accessories aisle !!!
I only potter about at 70mph top end at about 2.3k revs
Occasionally i have just floored the loud pedal and it runs upto 5k revs smooth as silk but needs a blip to kick down.

I really think I'm getting good miles for the York Minster Cathedral and more than happy with it.
The trip computer says I'm getting 22 - 25 mpg but if i behaved i could easily get an accurate 26 ???

My BRC system which I have in the ff and another car switches to unleaded without me needing to touch the button. In fact only time I touch the button is to get rid of annoying beep letting me know the LPG has all been used.

If you have to hit the button and it's kangarooing while trying to switch to unleaded I would get it looked at. Current:

I have a Prins system on mine and it's an auto switch over too, filled from empty I get about £45 worth in at 0.65p a litre and get about 200 Miles to a tank but this includes a lot of town driving.

Hiya Swithins, thanks for the reply.
I may have confused the issue after rereading my comment, having never used LPG and being a little boy with new toy etc, i have pressed everything at least once just to see what it does …… DOH

Whilst travelling along the transmission light on dash illuminates !!! oh eck …
Check the book to find that car must be stopped and garage visit asap basically.
It is running smooth as silk, no noises, no whines or grinding etc.
Due to my work we use Voith, ZF, MTU, Rexroth gearboxes etc so nurse it back home.
At this point the car begins to judder slightly more like an Asthma attack and figure its fuel.
Then notice that the LED display on this small Prins black square is now flashing red led - usually green.
I press it again - knowing I've previously played with it - then the engine picks up revs smoother etc
The dash transmission light also extinguishes and off to the nearest auto gas filling pump.

Now 1% more wiser on this issue, still pressing buttons tho haha

Hi Ningr

You need to take your car to an lpg specialist as it should seamlessly switch to unleaded automatically. I recently had my FFRR converted and that fault was a teething problem easily sorted, it failed to switch over and I had no power going up hill on a motorway with no hard shoulder at night Shocked It should only very very slightly stutter when switching from unleaded to lpg, never had it the other way round.

Like I said, it's an easy fault to fix. I also had the engine warning light come on a lot but my guy replaced a leaky hose which sorted it. Current:

Yesterday i drove 480 miles to plymouth and back.
Filled with 105.7 litres/23.28 gallons of LPG.
And STILL have a bit more than a quarter of a tank of LPG left... Very Happy

Price of the LPG 64.9 pence a litre.. Thumbs Up [/b]
