After saying my one had stopped leaking......

2000 mile round trip has shown it is yet again leaking slowly! I think the plan is to get it taken out by the local garage and get them to strip everything off it and check all the seals and figure where it is coming from!

Need to get it on a bench really. But first off I'm going to clean it with brake cleaner and degreaser to see if it leaks when standing, it seems to be coming from the same area as before, round the hi low selector, and running down, but is quite moist round the small solenoid. Got to be coming from somewhere!

Grrrrrrr. Bleeding thing! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Oh no mark, I hope you don't have the same issue as me. I have been under mine dozens of times now and it is a complete mystery. It is only when it moves and it is not getting any worse (which oil leaks normally do) let me know how you get on. I'm planning to take the box out soon and fit RRPhils casings.

Yep, not leaking when stationary. Had stopped leaking! It was fixed before I did the normandy run with the van on the back and i checked it before we went to the south, no leaks were visible.

It looks like the long run may have loosened something. Going to get LR to have another look at it as they fixed it last time. Hope it not a crack, as that would be a new box but seems not as was ok for 3000 miles with no leaks! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Box is out and I can't see any evidence of porosity?? In fact I can't see anywhere where it could be leaking from? This is a mystery?

I know. Its a nightmare.

Having run it round a fair bit still cant see a leak! So its not losing much. I would reckon on a seal somewhere!

Possibly the little solenoid on the rear, can see some slight moisture round that, but not sure that would give the oil where its is. My local mechanic had it in today to see if he could see anything and couldn't pin it down.

Might try nipping it up and see how it goes. I assuming its an o ring seal so it might have no affect. The problem is its so slight that you have to put a fair few hundred miles on it to see any oil at all. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Hi chaps, just wanted to suggest something that you may have overlooked......... Have you looked at the breather? There must be one some where on the top of the box, and if its blocked, the box will p#ss oil from every seal when its hot. Only a thought, but could be worth considering, if you haven't already.
Good luck!

Good shout there, it is a possibility but have checked round the breather as best i can and its fine, pretty sure it terminates in the engine bay also. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Got under mine today with my E6 socket.

There was a fair bit of nipping up available on the new sensor. Didn't do it too tight as its plastic, but the danger of over tightening with a 3" mini socket bar are small.

Am going to wash it off again and have a look in a week or so. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Well. .. it had definitely been welded..... I will post pictures..... and some sort of paste / filler was on the inside of the casings, so there was a leak / crack / porosity at some point, but it was NOT leaking from there any longer, but I had obtained RRPhil's spare casings so I intended to swap them and see what happens.

I took them to a specialist in Halifax (don't know if I can mention them, I would like to as they were so profesional) and the guy doing the job spotted that there is a cap (like a core plug) in the end of the flange which had been "turned around" and he said it could be leaking through that????

He swapped all the gears from my casing and left the offending shaft from Phils casings and I think we have a cure. I'm putting it back in today so I will post some pictures when I have worked out how to do it again!

Fingers crossed I have cured it.

I'm going to change the gearbox oil whilst it is out as well.

Flange and core plug type cap that had been disturbed?

Evidence of weld that definitely wasn't leaking now.

looks like the new casings should fix that well enough. You will have to transfer all the other things over which have a gasket or oring, so a good chance to get the seals on those replaced too! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
