brake squeal from new pads

Hi all,

I bought some new OE quality pads from Euro Car Parts about 4 weeks ago and they are now making an almighty squeal under braking.
There doesn't appear to be any way of applying shims or copper grease as the pads have a sticky pad surface with a peel off sheet.
Brake discs are healthy and only a couple of years old.
Anyone have any ideas on a solution?

Maybe the peel off sheet should be removed and copper grease then applied? Present :2008 TDV8 HSE

Copper grease or it's ceramic/silicone replacements are used to dampen resonance so it is useful to apply to metal to metal sliding areas, the backing pad on the back of the pad is superior so leave that alone, try a little high temp grease on the edges of the pad, obviously keeping clear of the friction surfaces.

What OEM quality pads were they? ECP sell mostly Eicher and Pagid which are both own brand labels with a mixed source product in the box.

Did you fit new discs? If not old discs may have a lip at the edge or an uneven surface causing your noise. Paul Redding

I had the pagid discs and pads. Squeezed like bu##ery. Fitted LR pads and now sorted. It was very embarrassing driving along with the noise Smile Ian

Did mine last week. No issues yet but I always use copper slip on the pads never removing the backing pad and also on the pad guides on the carrier. Time will tell.

I think they were Pagid. Blue box. I've had them before and haven't had any problems with them

Hi it could be the pad its-self, I fitted some Mintex pads to the rear of mine the other week and they are driving me nuts. They didn't have any backing on them and I'm beginning to think that this is my problem. I always dry fit my pads first to make sure that they don't bind in the calliper / pad bracket, sometimes rust on the surface can restrict the movement. And I have in the past, had some pads that were so heavily painted they refused to move until I'd cleaned the edges. Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Not really fair of me to disrespect the competition, but I will stick to the facts.

Mintex have often had squeal problems over the years, although it has been down to certain part numbers rather than whole product range. Mintex (or rather the parent company TMD Friction) own the brand name of Pagid and whilst years before it was their premium product now it is just licenced to ECP for their sole use. There is a mixture of manufacturers product in the box.

Often brake squeal is blamed on the pad but can be the fault elsewhere in the setup/fitting, whilst I do not supply TMD product this is a really good technical assistance guide that is worth looking at if you have an issue:

A good read there, but I've got to ask, do the rear pads have a anti squeal backing from other manufactures, or is that I've got to strip it all out and clean and re-grease?
While the Mintex pads that I fitted do exactly what they were meant to do, stop!, I have a nagging in the back of my mind that they also have a reputation to squeal like a pig.
If no else has put a backing on their rear pads, then I'll have to strip and refit. But if, as I suspect, there are pads with the anti squeal backing out there, I will be replacing them, and adding these ones to the only to be used in an emergency pile of spares Wink Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Thanks for that, looks like I'm going to save myself the headache of trying to get my pads to shutup and I'll be fitting some higher spec ones instead! Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!
