Would the old RR wheels help?

They had a different offset (wider IIRC)

Wheels with a higher positive offset (i.e. L322) sit further into the arches, not further out.

I have been looking at this quite a bit recently.

The off-road tyres seem to come only in 20" (no 21" or 22"). The correct tyre size for those wheels is 275/50/20

There aren't any off-road tyres that I have found in that size. There are either 275/55/20 or 285/50/20 (Cooper Zeon LTZ).

The 275/55/20 is perhaps too tall (the change in circumference is 3.7% - the tyre sites recommend no more than a 2.5% difference). However, I guess it is only about enough to make the speedo accurate.

The 285/50/20 is pretty much bang-on in terms of size (+1.6%) but obviously is wider so might have rubbing issues (the tyre is very close to the damper strut on my car which has 275/45/21s).

This thread on the RRS forum suggests that the 285/50/20 does not rub on the latest L494 RRS (same chassis).

So I think that 20" wheels with 285/50/20 is probably the way to go.

None have a high enough speed rating but, for insurance purposes, I think this is a low risk (as long as you are not exceeding the speed)

I have my 20" wheels now (thanks to SKOT of this forum).

Is the a tyre dealer who would let my "try before you buy" for rubbing issues? I'd like to try the 285/50/20s but I'm worried they might be too wide.
