5 Button Proximity key

I have a MY2010 with only one key, does anyone know of an alternative source for these, JLR want an eye popping Shocked £390, its not essential as I have never lost a key, ever but SWMBO says I should get one and I don't want it to be my Christmas present as I have my eye on a quadcopter. Very Happy Geoff

These might well be the answer, apparently they must be new and unused i.e. not programmed already - if these fit the bill thats £100 saved, I wonder if I can reprogram myself, maybe with the IDTool mmm........ Geoff

The problem is not making the key work on the lock/unlock that you can do. But the transponder needs to be pre-programmed to the car (that is done at the OEM supplier AFAIK) and then the IID/Faultmate etc. will tell the ECU which keys are now to be used. At least that was how it was with the pre 2010 (?) era cars. Not sure if that is the same with the 2010 and up models since the keys fobs are quite different although I'd expect it to be the same.

Maybe ask the GAP guys if they have more info on that.

My point is, do your research first before wasting money on fobs (like I did with the 2006 before Dave came with his flip key offer). MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

The good news is that I have been in touch with GAP and key programming is on the list in the coming few months so I will wait and see what they come up with. I have done a bit of Internet research and there are independent companies that do it for about half that of the main dealer c.£150 and you pay on completion after testing the key.
But as I said I will probably wait for GAP.
Cheers all Very Happy Geoff

I was wondering about the value of the IIDToll on my 2010 where lots of things are changeable from the driver driven menu's. However I have already activated my towbar which saved me £60 and also turned off, then on. then off, then on and finally off the Canadian DRL having also tried the Scandinavian DRL setting whilst messing - its a great tool for the ditherer - how much would that amount of dithering have cost me at the dealers Very Happy Very Happy Geoff

I never did close this thread but I might have mentioned this elsewhere, Dan sold me a new key and I programmed it with the IIDTool it was actually very straightforward and it is in fact the key I use everyday.

The next, smaller issue, is getting a blade for it - I got something from Timpsons which will do but I would like the real thing but again a blank is quite expensive from JLR and then I need to get it cut - there are no transponder issues it doesn't start the car, just gets you in. Geoff
