Will you buy a new RR knowing they may be uninsureable

New to this site but great find, as most or some of you are aware of articles in the times/mail/watchdog this week regarding insurers refusing to cover RR in central London. I'm concerned this may spread and LR are putting out PR waffle and after speaking to my local sales department they advised that JLR are not planning to change the keyless bit, my problem is I'm not going to order any thing I can't drive...whats the solution ?

What's the problem with them for the insurance?

Insurance companies are now refusing insurance on the new L405 Range Rover, if you live in London, after a massive hike in keyless thefts.
The exception being if it's kept in underground or secure parking, which most people can not realistically do.

You should start a poll in this forum: http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/land-rover-...-vf33.html

Thumbs Up

Doubt it will make much difference though...

Hi All,

Just felt it was important to comment on this as I can certainly appreciate the concerns such a subject would raise.

Land Rover is aware of a rise in the number of thefts of Land Rover products. The current Land Rover line-up continues to meet the insurance industry requirements as tested and agreed with the relevant insurance bodies, nevertheless the company has taken this issue very seriously and our engineering teams have been working in collaboration with insurance bodies and police forces to fully understand the attack risks facing Land Rover models. It is however important to remember that this is an industry-wide issue and not specific to Land Rover vehicles only.

We have released a number of security updates in the last 12 months and have further updates due this year. We are continually updating and improving our security systems to ensure we stay ahead of the criminals and the industry-wide problem which the motor industry in general is tackling on a daily basis.

Many thanks,
Pete

I would be very hesitant to get one until my insurance company confirmed in writing that the car would be insured. If not, just enjoy the beautiful classic looks of the L322 Smile Smile Smile MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

If I win the lottery this weekend I'll buy one and a security guard to stand and watch it while I leave it....

Otherwise, unfortunately not a problem for me, Craig had a set of wheels and tyres off a L405 for sale that cost more than my whole truck Big Cry Big Cry Pete

Surely if it has a tracker........ They can steal it as many times as they like, the good trackers can be traced in containers etc and are gps based so easily found. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I watched watchdog tonight. With the BMW it looked like they programmed the key away from the car. With the Range Rover and the Audi they programmed both within the car. So it seems like they NEED access to the inside to program the keys. Not sure if that is correct or not really, but they showed the chap programming them with the doors open. In the case of the Audi they needed access to the boot area. I think if thats the case make sure you lock your car before walking away, ie, parked on your drive or nipping in a shop. You may chuckle at the last sentence but I see a lot of folk with VERY nice cars leaving them unlocked whilst they walk into the local garage to pay for fuel.

I got pretty much exactly this spiel, word-for-word, when I phoned Land Rover Customer Relations (it was clearly being read from a script on her screen).

I was put on a list for some updates later in the year (or next year). My dealer will supposedly call me.

In the meantime, DOUBLE LOCK the car (press the lock (or touch the dimple on the outside of the handle) TWICE. It is not perfect but it superlocks the car so that the scrotes have to climb in through the broken window.

A friend of mine had his 2013 Range Rover vogue se stolen like this and he had terrible trouble with the insurance company as they claimed he must have left the car unlocked!!! Plus he lost his no claims and his premiums went through the roof (protected no claims made hardly any difference) so this is definitely going on, I have now had a protective device installed in both my cars which dosnt affect the way I open close and start the car but protects against this type of crime (don't want to elaborate incase the wrong people are reading this) it was done by a company called select auto systems and only cost £200 per car. Bargain compared to what it would cost to loose my pride and joy!!!!! Great job from a very nice installer called Gary very fast prompt and above all careful installation (apparently he works for all the leading prestige car manufacturers and it shows in the care he took whilst fitting, with me looking over his shoulder!!!) contact www.selectautosystems.co.uk

Also, they have tracker jammers that block the signal the tracker sends until they can find it and remove it from the car!!!!

The tracker hammers they are currently using are micro units that kill mobile and gps within about a 5m radius.

They need less power but can last a lot longer on a charge and even have a little port so they can be run off a usb socket or charger, ie stuck in the boot and powered off the accessory socket.

Cars are nicked, false plates stuck on and then left somewhere for a few days with the device plugged in and if they aren't picked up when the scrotes return they take the car and stick it in a container and play find the tracker if one has been fitted. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
