I have now had a protective device installed in both my cars which dosnt affect the way I open close and start the car but protects against this type of crime (don't want to elaborate incase the wrong people are reading this) it was done by a company called select auto systems and only cost £200 per car. Bargain compared to what it would cost to loose my pride and joy!!!!!

A £5 hidden switch in the OBD plug wiring would have exactly the same effect Thumbs Up

You will find the alarm and immobiliser system on almost all LR/RR models since 2004 are Thatcham approved (Defender + FL1 excluded)

£5...Lol,!!!....for my £100k car..but I suppose I was working on the assumption that if their savvy enough to have the kit they might just work out if it's not working then there is a hidden switch........and probably wouldn't take them that long to find it!!!!!

If they want the car they will likely have watched the car a little bit so could be aware of such a device.

Sadly this is what happens when the price of them is pushed up into the £100k territory that it becomes much more profitable for criminals to steal and ship abroad.

Unless it's a defender in which case it will be stripped for parts quicker than a football player taking a dive... FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I have a tracker in mine, from "tracker" didn't make mich difference to the insurance.

It was already there and only cost a couple of hundred quid for a lifetime subscription! But like some I suspect if I had the car stolen I would rather have the cash, so long as it was a fair price! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Hey NMJ, I agree. I don't care about paying more or less for insurance, just as long as they either find the car or pay me back a decent amount. Depends on how badly the car has been damaged.

Good thing though that mine is a bit older so less likely to be stolen (I hope) then the newer ones.

Still I would definitely do the OBDII dummy trick and put my "real" OBD in a more convenient but well hidden and diffcult to reach spot. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

The SC's are the ones in big demand for other countries that are rhd.

I'd be interested to see what the figures are for some lhd countries for stolen vehicles. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

You can fit all sorts of extra security devices to your vehicle but if Insurers won't take this in to account when determining your premium then it's clear they are only interested in having us over for as much cash as possible.

And your point is what? Just because they are thatcham approved! Rolling Eyes WOW! means very little in this day & age sir... As explained countless times above Rolling Eyes

If they have the means to electronically steal your car, a poxy door lock's not going to stop them!

Three of my customers cars have been opened using the door lock as an entry point!... If you know... You know!

That is why more & more insurance companies insist on Trackers!

Don't you think it's ironic that to protect your new FFRR you have to fit a Tracker and for piece of mind an imobiliser, that's like fitting a key with a chip in it! Progress? Keyless entry is a pain in the butt, it's not just L/R and BMW who's systems are sub standard, even the mighty Toyota plays up. Wont let you in, wont start, rejects the key as your going down the road. If you have the choice get the one with a key. The only anti theft device that I know of is a big angry dog in the car, but you then run the risk that the car will be eaten! Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!
