United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Java Black
Rear Bumper Tread Plate

Hi All

Despite a rear view camera and sensors the rear of my car had an incident yesterday with a stationary concrete bollard Embarassed ..... don't ask!

The incident must have caused the bumper to flex in and the concrete to hit the Tread Plate which has a scuff on it.

I thought it best to get the bumper back to original state and have been having a quick look for a replacement tread plate before giving it in for a quick bit of paint along with an all over machine polish I've been meaning to get done.

The original tread plate on the car has the grey finish standard to a 2008 car but I've found a few originals on eBay that look black:

Did they come in black?
I believe the one on there to be original...

Any advice would be much appreciated.
PS. not sure how to insert hyperlinks Confused [/url]

I'm no expert but it is probably a grey one you are looking at on ebay.

However I prised my bumper tread plate off during the summer to clean out all the crap that accumulated underneath. I then cleaned and prepped the tread plate, sprayed Halfords plastic primer on it and then a couple of top coats of satin black spray paint.

The second option is to buy a black coloured plastic trim dye that is recommended on the Detailing World Forum. It's called Plasticare; available on eBay. It's about £12 without postage. You need to spread it on carefully to get an even finish. I tried it on my windscreen scuttle. It worked but it left brush marks, I should have used a sponge.

Now you have 3 options Very Happy
1. eBay
2. Spray it
3. Dye it.
Enjoy your weekend. Thumbs Up Travelling around in circles again.

Thanks Gents

I'm happy with the £35 option of the new one and like the idea of a black one but wondering if it'll look a bit odd as the rest of the trim is standard Brunel (I think it's Brunel) Grey??

I'm not about to start changing it all - just want to keep it looking tidy and not messed with really although i would consider the changing the little trim strip above the rear number plate to black as well??

Any ideas out there or has anybody done anything similar and can show me??

Thanks in advance

Oh - the car is Java Black

I had the same colour trim as you-Brunel grey I believe. I changed the rear number plate trim strip to a chrome one. I also changed the lettering and door handles to chrome. Whatever colour you choose it's fairly easy to remove the old strip (and letters) and replace with something else.
Warm the strip up with a hair dryer and then get some dental floss. Stretch the dental floss and pull it underneath one end of the strip. Then use a sawing motion and move along the strip. The dental floss will cut through the adhesive strip holding the trim in place. The trim will then fall away.
Keep the trim warm as you remove it and you'll have less adhesive left on the paintwork. Travelling around in circles again.

As far as I am aware the top tailgate strip only came in Black , Brunel and Chrome. I've just had mine replaced when I had the tailgate done .They are a separate item . LRO 11183 Insert Brunel, But I think you'll find that they are more £45 than £35 from Land Rover.

I've just replaced the Tread plate as I call it. LRO 14496 in Brunel.£45.from Land Rover. At the time it was the only place available.

Hope the above is of some help.

Thanks for all your responses, they are appreciated.

Anybody had any experience of the door handle coloured covers sold by PowerfulUK? I figure if I'm going to go for a black trim I may as well Java Black the handles too. If not I'll just stick to the Brunel Grey for the Tread Plate and be done with it.

I bought some in Buckingham Blue. They fit well and look nice. I know that they are covers and can see the seams, but I don't think anyone else would notice.
