SPEED AWARENESS COURSE

I went on the dreaded speed awareness course in February and I just come to renew my insurance and guess what! Its gone up by £55.00 quid due to the course?

I was doing 37 in a 30...............No points or fine - just the 4 hours and 85 quid for the course........

Anyone else's insurance company ask if you have been on a course????

From what I hear, insurance companies have cottoned on to this and class people who've done the course as an equal risk to those having taken the fine and points.

There was a time when taking the SAC was a way of avoiding your insurance company finding out................. Whistle Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Mine asked me this year - as above - I guess it's the same as points from a risk perspective.

Never been asked, just asked me if I had any motoring convictions since my last renewal.
Although it was back in 2006 when I went on the course, maybe times have changed and they are out to get from you what they can.

I was not offered the course but got a fine and points and my insurance came down?!
I asked them if it was a mistake and was told that as I had been done for speeding I was less likely to speed again and was therefore less of a risk.... Previously..

ive got a course coming up so im going to find out, however , just renewed my bike insurance last night and they never asked and when I did the RR insurance earlier this year I don't remember them asking , that's with esure .

the course organisers are adamant that they don't share info with the dvla so they would never find out but its an uncomfortable thing to lie about it to your insurance .

I think Admiral asked - that's who I'm with - but I also checked on a price comparison site & they definitely asked so some companies want to know.

Admiral certainly seem to be "leading" the market withe SAC questioning.

Re price comparison, don't forget that confused.com is owned by Admiral...... 2006 4.2 SC

Privilege didn't ask but even if they did I might question why they are asking? The SAC is not a conviction, no penalty points, no fine, just a course admin fee which one would reasonably expect with any course. The information isn't in the public domain so I'm not even sure they have a right to ask if I'm honest.

When all's said and done the course is supposed to be educational rather than penal so as noted above it ought to make you a better driver anyway, yes?

Personally I think it's just one more question the insurance companies can think of to load the premiums a bit.

I think you need to pick your insurer carefully, apparently some even consider the fitting of an OEM towbar a "modification" I had one that considered misfuelling as an "incident" (it was stupidity) and increasingly they are asking the "speed awareness course" question.
I recently changed to eSure to avoid that stuff, even with my 5L supercharged bruiser it only cost me a tad over £200 plus Another £150 or so for SWMBO and her Nissan Juke in a multi car setup. Cost me more for my mountain bikes but again shopping around found an alternative (to NatWest) who included them on my house contents policy.

Shopping around is a PITA and takes time so don't leave it until the last minute. Geoff
