Scotland 2008 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Stornoway Grey

White and lighter colours help to stop them overheating in sunlight. They can get very hot inside without aircon. Might not be so much a problem in UK but the sun does shine there. So I'm told. Smile John

i read that as well John, but would it make that much difference in the internal temperature especially if they are insulated to keep the cold out, this same insulation should keep the inside cool.... ... - .- -.

They are insulated a bit - I have a static caravan and your rate it better than my shed, but nowhere near my house in terms of insulation.

On a sunny day it gets very hot inside - and on a cold night, quite cool

Stan, It probably won't make a massive difference, unless you have a black caravan Shocked , every bit helps but, as Alistair says, the insulation is not exceptionally high. The insulation does help in the winter, as does double glazing.

French friends had one with air con which they considered a necessity. John

I do agree that seeing every single caravan in white looks rather 'samey'. Motorhomes, too.

Like Stan, I always assumed it was for cost reasons. Plus white matches pretty much any tow car whereas other colours could clash. And white doesn't show the dirt much, either.

But not wishing to conform to 'the norm' is one reason I chose to buck the trend slightly with mine. It's been this colour since new, waaaay back in 1992. I was lucky enough to find the ideal layout at my ideal budget with a great (in my opinion) colour.

Funnily enough Stan I had the same thoughts whilst looking around the site before I took the photo. There were the usual mix of old cream ones, newer white ones and the odd silver ones dotted around and I wondered why no-one did colours. I quite like the silver look as it makes them stand out.

As said several times above I guess it's down to volume and cost. I suppose it would also impact used sales as certain colours would not be as popular and dealers wouldn't want to get lumbered with them.

On a slightly different note, when I had the D2 I also had a bit of "car envy" on the sites looking at newer discos and range rovers but not anymore with my lovely FFRR Thumbs Up

Talking about caravan weights, I remember back in the late 70's my dad bought a used caravan, can't recall the nam (might have been Berkely), but it nearly ripped the back end out of his 1600 Ford Cortina mk2 towing it home! I remember the whole back wall of the van hinged up from the roof to form a kind of awning, and the internal doors were solid oak! Shocked

We never got a holiday out of it because he had to swap the car for a Corsair 2000E and then found the wood frame of the van was riddled with wet rot!

So the whole thing got scrapped! Chassis was converted into a trailer for my racing Kart!

It was a bit bigger than this, with a lantern roof.

My mates just bought one of these, and now has trouble booking in anywhere, apparently they are very popular with "travellers" and when the site ask him what van he has, they say they don't take them...!!! Pete
