England 2014 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Loire Blue

Only if they needed to reprogram a key... otherwise leave it fitted...

JLR only did what the government told them to do, which was make the vehicle serviceable by anyone, if they fitted this as standard it would be no good as hiding it is the part that makes it work....

They could make it so only JLR could program a key but their not allowed to.... Pete

So I asked my main dealer about the Cam-Lock and the in line OBD hidden switch options. Here is what they said: “Regarding the keyless security issue, if you were to have either of these fitted it would unfortunately invalidate the warranty. This is due to them being non-Land Rover parts and not a recognised repair by the manufacturer. It is possible to have them fitted, but not by a Land Rover authorised dealer. The recommendation from Land Rover is to steer clear of these modifications. As it may appear easy to carry out, there is no way of knowing any other impacts it may have on the vehicle itself and could potentially do more harm than good. There are checks to be carried out to ensure that there are no other keys programmed to the car. But programming a new key to the vehicle isn’t as easy a process as it is made out to be.”

What did you expect them to say....

"yes sir that's a great idea, after all, we have sold you a car that can be stolen in less than a minute..." Pete

Recent history includes a rental car and a JLR Jag, both with keyless entry and keyless start. I see NO advantage over the regular system. Now, key remote to unlucky the car and get the windows down on a hot day, fantastic!

I understand that keyless entry theft is possible on late L322 cars as well as the L405?

Keyless entry has always been somewhat vulnerable

It's the keyless ignition that takes it to a different level.....

Disclock is useful .
Wiring in your own switch or two is useful if you use decent kit . Switching off the fuel pump and or ignition power supply is good . Just remember to remove it or tell the new owner when selling .
I`ve been using the belt and braces approach for years .

I am sure that I read somewhere that the KVM ( key validation module) on the 2016 L405 is read only so it is not possible to create a key from the OBD port and that the major security weakness has therefore been addressed.

Update on this. My 2016 model L405 is going in for its first service next week. Dealer just called to say that they need both keys as they are doing an upgrade to the keyless entry. It seems that the Key Validation Module on my MY2016 was not read only and needs to be replaced by one that is. ie so that it is not possible to create a key using the OBD port.

Good to know the problem is being addressed. Not sure why it took them so long.
