It doesn't look like a "hack" rather someone who has authorised access to control the car using an "app". and I thought the Jeeps were all american, anyway not got that level of computer control on my old beast. Geoff

No what I'm saying is a couple of hackers have shown how you can take control of someone else's car via the infotainment system and then steer brake and accelerate the car , they used Jeeps but just about any modern car that is internet connected is possible , something like this can only make it easier . Someone els recently got into an Airbus's electronics via the AVOD unit in his seat and got control of one of the engines Shocked . Just to prove the point.

Now I'm not sure if it is all true but , Shocked 2008 MY Supercharged

The remote control gadget is lovely especially if you are off roading, parking, working a trailer etc. BUT since smartphones are easily hackable and internet connected cars as well there needs to be a lot of security to prevent hackers getting in.

It is inevitable that we are moving to full autonomous cars in the next decades and won't be allowed to drive ourselves at some point (HSE) but the security of vehicles needs to improve dramatically before that can be done. Just imagine some Osama Bin Laden wannebee hacker wanting to create havoc in the big cities around the world and launching a bot virus on the net that lodges into a few very common cars and then remote controlling them or worse letting a random generator control the movements while speeding up, disabling the brakes, locking the doors and windows. Can you imagine.

Now if anyone writes a book or makes a movie about this, I want part of the profit !!!!!!

I love the immense speed with which innovation develops in the world but unfortunately the things making it safe are still lagging behind a bit. No wonder some big names in the world (Hawking, Musk, Gates) are voicing concerns about AIs, autonomous weaponry etc. Because we humans are great at developing the next big thing but we are lousy at doing it in a way it is safe. I mean how many times have we seen well intended innovations wounding/killing a lot of people first before the safety is addressed properly..................

Anyway, cool gadget but only if it has a hard wire only switch to activate it and even then there is a risk from hackers......... Still this type of gadget is less of an issue than a fully autonomous car in traffic.......... MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
