Breaking down my 3rd viscous fan, I am now thinking about replacing it by an electric fan.
I know some of you guy's are driving around with the viscous removed but I sometimes do some heavy towing so i would like some cooling. Anyone did this conversion? cars on the side;

If you haven't changed the thermostat then you will need an adjustable fan controller, the fixed ones come in far too early for the temp these engine run at... Pete

It is advertised as ajustable from 70 to 120 degrees Celcius.
From the Jaguar I will need all the electronics as well?
Cables and plugs (obvious) and also the fan controll module?
how did you connect all that?  cars on the side;

The one I got came with a soft start relay, otherwise use an 80amp relay, direct fused supply from the battery and an ignition switched supply for the control feed...

The fan control module on the X-Type is fixed to the fan housing if i remember correctly.

Looking at the wiring diagram, I was wondering what battery input 2 and 3 are. one from the thermostat and one from the car ignition I assume.
Which one goes where? cars on the side;

Wht/Grn to feed from controller
Brn/Grn to permanent 12v via 80amp fuse
Blk to Earth, same rating as wire to Brn/Grn

While gathering parts, I removed my viscous fan. I now see a significan drop in temperature on the highway. Looks like a broken egr thermostat. Had this problem before so I replaced it about 6 months ago. Maybe it took a beat while removing the viscous fan. Or am I missing something? cars on the side;

Pete, Buddy got to ask, have you got a fan kill switch? Only ask as it was a must add on for Jeeps with an electric fan conversion to stop them coming on when swimming, and drowning the engine. Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Is that like those alarms that you hear on the war films just before the submarine dives

Bearing in mind that I don't want to go sailing in my ffrr, but I do use it for some serious towing, in your opinion, would you think this is worth thinking about? I'm very keen to extend the life of my ffrr as long as possible, but I also don't have a great deal of dosh to throw at it. Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

I changed mine because the viscous fan was not working and it was cheaper than a new one of them, it's also handy when wading but modern fans blades don't tend to break when they hit water and the engine is pretty water friendly as well...

It's also easier to remove than the viscous fan....

Doesn't make it run cooler but it does move a lot of air at tickover if you have problems with yours overheating... Pete
