LR obviously thinks that because the FF is an expensive vehicle, 'One' will not replace the spare 'Ones' self but 'One' will get the breakdown services or the butler to do the job.. ... - .- -.

^^ I always get chauffeur to do mine............ good looking chap, in the mirror.......... but he's a miserable git Laughing

I have actually managed to change a wheel with the std Land Rover jack and lived to tell the tale Shocked Further, the jack survived to tell the tale too Shocked Shocked

There are many alternative jacks that will work, but if you use the LR jacking points then they have to be high lift. I have my doubts as to whether a P38 / Disco hydraulic jack has the lift to raise a ffrr, as they were designed to go under the axle, and as such only need to raise the car about 15". The ffrr has to be lifted a lot more because you are lifting the body and therefore have to take all the suspension travel too. I normally use my trolley jack, but that stays at home, one, because I'm getting too old to lift it in and out the car (3 ton garage jack, not a Micky Mouse diy thing), and two, space is very limited in the back.

But I will admit to having designs on an all aluminium 'pro' jack from Costco, a pal of mine has one, will lift my ffrr one corner at a time no problem and weighs more than 50% less that my jack Bow down

If time is not an issue for you, get the AA / RAC or who ever you use to do the job Thumbs Up Please be aware that unless you are a pregnant mother, or with young children, or disabled, you will not be a priority, but you will sit higher than someone who's run out of fuel or filled up with the wrong stuff Embarassed
But if you have to run to a time table, I would recommend a good jack, and test it before you need to use it........... you'd be pretty pee'd off if on it's first outing you find that it wont quite lift the car high enough Embarassed Censored Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Guys , sorry. I read this ages ago when my jack "folded itself in half" whilst using it. Plan was to get a Merc Sprinter bottle as suggested.. Just realised I've totally forgot to get one and am running around without!! Shocked

Sorry I can't copy eBay link but item number is eBay Item No. 200957697243

Anyone used one? Is 405mm height tall enough? Or just pay the £45 ish for a sprinter and be safe?

Thanks all

I very much doubt if that will lift the car high enough, the sprinter jack will lift about 7 inches higher than that one. This is what everyone's using http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes-sprinte...Swd4tTzCaq Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Just remember that you either need to replace the top, or take an angle grinder / file to it, to make it a bit smaller to fit in the rectangle holes in the sills Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

What are the options for an L405, if you don't want to grind the "ears" off a Sprinter Jack?

I used my L405 jack twice, the second time the winder handle buckled under the strain of winding the jack up, which also seemed to be twisting. next time I was in the dealers I told them and they replaced it with a new one for me so at least I should get 1 good use out of it if required and I don't want to wait for RAC. Steve

A friend (who is also on here) just had his L405 jack crumple on him. I had wondered it the lighter L405 might make the standard fit ones viable. Apparently not.

Shocked So does that mean that the L322 jack is a heavy duty L405 jack? or are they the same in which case Shocked I'm lucky that It picked the car up once Shocked

There was a time when one only had to flick a lever with the engine running and one's car would jack its' self up, and they say that we have progressed Rolling Eyes Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Years ago ( like 40 ) my mum had a air bag type thing that she attached to the exhaust of her Hillman Avenger and it would inflate and lift the car. It would then collapse back down to a very small size 2015 4.4 AB
