Good day gents. Having done a search and not 100% coming up with anything - can I ask if anyone has done/could advise on the following please?

Our ff '07 tdv8 facelift has the phone cradle in the armrest. It's a Vogue non-SE so no rear entertainment.
In our previous car we had an ipod setup in the glovebox which was sleek and powered up automatically - I realise tha in the FF unless I spend silly amounts to do the LR install that isn't going to happen.
What I want to try and do is relocate/break into the aux port underneath the rear heated seat switches, and one of the 12v supplies, and install some cabling up to where the phone cradle is. So effectively have a 3.5mm port (or jack) and a usb port in there - that way I can stick Mrs JB's ipod in there and all I need to do is have her switch it on if she wants to listen through the aux input button on the dash. This of course could be used for her iphone/my android phone etc - you ger the drift. I don't mind some work to make a nice neat hidden cable solution - I hate trailing wires. I know our intrepid Mr Powell here (Hi David) is exploring a bluetooth receiver, but this was just a tangential thought of mine as the ipod won't do bluetooth...

Unless there is a better location? My glovebox is filled by a white-noise-only cd player, and a venturecam holder....

Best thing to do IMHO is run a cable from the glove box fuses to wherever you need it.

Use a piggy back fuse for the live & find a suitable earth point.

That's what the majority of people do for dash cams

If your CD player doesn't work , I'd look at the kit weegie just fitted and reported on a couple of weeks ago .

Or if you don't need/want all its features , it will be easier to tap into the port in the rear and the 12v in the center console .

I'll have a re-look at weegie's thread - I think I recall it.

I'd be careful about having 12v going directly through your USB jack. The standard USB convention is 5v at 2.1Amps. Putting 12v through your device will possibly fry it. You will need to put a DC to DC step-down converter before the USB jack to take 12v down to 5v.

Have you considered using a plug in Bluetooth transmitter with your ipod and then going down the Bluetooth route.

I'll try and find the thread that I've seen tonight.

Stage 2 of my install, will see me solder three wires on to the back of the aux in connector and add an additional connector into the armrest cubbyhole. There is already power in there so you can get away with a simple 12v adaptor although I'll be tempted to also wire in a couple of usb (with step down circuit) if I can find a way to mount them nearly.

Loving ally therefore although I'm planning to use Bluetooth you could skip that bit and go for iPod.

The biggest catch is I've read that that the aux socket is smart and needs a cut off headphone plug in it to make it work.

Was in the car today (I had an operation the day after purchase so Mrs JB has been monopolising it), and as David has indicated, there's a 12 socket in the lower armrest so all I need to do is lob in one of our wee usb converters like this:-

I presume the phone cradle in there can come out - it looks removable but I am one-hand Larry at the moment!!
Then all I need to do is get the aux up into the armrest as a nice neat solution.

I am struggling to understand one thing though.
Why bother with the bluetooth adaptor?

Example (based on relocating aux into armrest cubby) -
ipod - charge via usb 12 adaptor + ipod cable, plug aux-in cable into headphone socket on ipod
iphone - charge via usb cable as above, plug aux-in cable into headphone socket, leave bluetooth paired to car for calls
android phone - charge, play, call as per iphone


Is there something glaringly obvious that I am missing? If you want to be able to control the device it has to stay outside of the cubby/armrest of course.

Would you see them if you put your phone in the cubby?

then I can't fast forward when my daughters one direction hit's the sound...

Eventually I'd like to end up with this... No wires, legal control....

Mrs JB just had a go with an aux cable plugged into headphone socket of her iphone 6.
Works perfectly, phone call cuts in over it.

She's out in it at the moment (again.....) - is the 12v socket in the glovebox ignition or permanent live is my next investigation.....
