General discussion on customer service and warranties

I've posted this here because I don't want to limit it to LR. However, I will start the ball rolling by saying that in this country we really are pretty damn shocking at looking after the customer.

It's all red carpet until they've got your money. I've had plenty of experience of main dealers of various makes and have noted that it isn't down to the make, it's purely the attitude of that particular dealer or chain. I've dealt with 3 LR main dealers, 2 were just about average and the third was simply abysmal. My car was never completely sorted until I took it to an Indy when the 12 AUC month warranty had run out. LR need sort to this out, premium product, premium prices, decidedly third rate dealers (where are the really good ones?).

Then we come to warranty. First port of call, every bloody time, is 'oh sorry Sir, that isn't covered by our all inclusive comprehensive extra platinum super cover which covers every conceivable eventuality..........except this one.' WHY? For God's sake all you have to do is act sensibly and just admit the damn thing has gone wrong and fix it! I suspect I know why the dealers are the first in chain of warranty claim avoidance, bet they don't get the same labour rates from the warranty company that they charge us!! I'm having an argument with BMW insured warranty at the moment about an 'exception' which they conveniently fail to mention in their warranty sales literature, but hide on page 21 of their full terms and conditions. They aren't the only ones up this shoddy practice.

Sorry for rant, but this really does bug me! Does it show?

Hi,
I notice that you are from Leamington Spa.
I live in nearby Warwick and have had nothing but excellent service from Guy Salmon in Stratford.
They even managed to sort out a long-standing problem with my InControl app.
They also supplied AND fitted some new number plates for £25.
FOC courtesy car, offer of lift to and from town if I didn't want the courtesy car, tea, coffee and sandwiches if you want to wait.
Robin Watson in particular was extremely helpful and knowledgeable.
He's in the service department.
I hope your rant sorry I mean post did not apply to this dealer Smile
Hope this is a help.
Tony

No, not Guy Salmon. I used them (Stratford, never used Coventry) a few years ago and found them to be very nice but could have been more effective. I emphasise that it was a good few years ago and from what you're saying they are pretty good now which is worth knowing. The real clowns I refer to are a few miles to the North (ish) and hopefully the apology of a dealer principle they had at the time has gone. The others are further East (a fair bit).
