Replace TPMS valve only, not full sensor

Has anyone successfully replaced the metal valve body w/o the entire sensor before?

I am curious if it's possible with the factory sensors. If anyone has detailed pictures of what was fitted by LR that could help as well.

So it looks entirley doable, assuming you are still using factory parts.

While I was messing around with trying to seal up the invisible crack in the aluminum valve stem I made the leak a little worse, to the point that I was having to add air everyday to keep the light from coming on.

I see it appears common for people to replace the TPMS with a standard rubber valve stem. I'm an instrumentation guy and I like the lazy factor of having a working TPMS.

So I took it to a local shop who charged a bit more than I wanted to spend ($135 US) for parts & labor for 1 TPMS. I asked them to keep my parts so I could investigate/have spare if the valve stem could be replaced.

I've tried to attached two photos, one of the replacement, which uses a rubber stem. I suppose less likely to corrode, but unlike the rest of my valve stems and not as cool looking Confused The other photo is of the parts of the TPMS after I disassembled them.

I should also note that my TPMS was not held in by anything other than the 12mm nut on the outside of the wheel. So when you air down the tire and pull off the 12mm retaining nut...the TPMS may fall into the wheel/tire.

If it's just for looks, then try these Whistle

I hate the LR components as they are just too fragile - I went to inflate one of mine right before a vacation - boot filled to the roof - and the Censored thing just snapped - so the tyre deflated in record time.

I had mine disabled & replaced the valves with rubber ones as soon as I could.

My L405 doesn't have TPMS either - though I hear they've changed system recently, so hopefully a bit more robust these days.
