Got a call yesterday, Admiral won't pay for a genuine one, I can pay the extra which was a little under £500...

I got off the floor and said I'd have one of theirs, was assured time and again it would be exactly the same as the original and everything would be fine... Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

She booked it in for next Wednesday then asked to check the details and they had mine as a 2000 Range Rover and a totally incorrect VIN number even though I went all through it with the original girl, gave her the VIN number, year, model, spec etc etc.... Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

So now it's been cancelled for next week as they try to sort out if they have the correct glass.... didn't bother to ask if the priice is less for an L322 one as opposed to the P38 one they thought it was but can't really see it myself... Got to wait for another call now... Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Hopefully having all the problems before they turn up to do it.... Thumbs Up Pete

Well it might be, after all they're more recent...

Having said that when I had mine done for the second time the girl behind the desk said I'd better be grateful to the insurance company because it was well past three digits... Ed

Had the screen fitted today, was a Pilkington one, slightly different to the original but oh so nice to have crystal clear glass to see through, makes it feel like a new car....

The old screen was the original and had pulled away from the body at both top corners, came out nice and easily and it was nice to see absolutely no rust at all around the screen, my last two Disco's were rotten all around the screen....

They replaced both side trims and the top trim, well, actually one side trim as the other one I modded to fit round the snorkel, but he still let me have it... The bottom scuttle around the wipers has the visible few fixings plus about 10 other clips moulded to the back of it, all of them broke off..!!! the guy said, oops, I'll order a new one for you FOC...

Two guys turned up, they were as nice as pie, did a very good job and took good care of the FF... all in all very impressed with Autoglass....

Haven't tried the wipers out yet as I don't want to use the old blades on the new screen, they are well past it, I've ordered some more but they won't be here till tomorrow...

It's a while since I've had a screen, they have a great bit of kit to get the old one out now, no smashing hell out of it, just used a metal wire and wrapped it round the screen, pushed both ends through one corner fixed it to a little suction hand winch and wound away, pulling the wire through the sealer, all very quick and clean with no shards of glass removed from the old screen at all...

Bottom corners of the new screen with the heated elements plug, this is where they are different, the old screen had the wiper heater elements in black, on this one they are silver and you can see them from inside at the bottom of the screen, doesn't look bad though, just different...

This is the lens for the auto wipers and the fixing for the mirror, it's a bayonet type fit...

Last off road outing split a sidewall in my brand new muds, bought a new tyre and had the damaged one repaired by a place that does lorry tyres, the damage wasn't through the sidewall cords so it was repairable, they re-vulcanise a new piece of rubber in then grind it back to match the sidewall, this looks a bit messy as the guys usually do HGV tyres where no one cares what they look like... I'm using this as a spare now and how sad am I and my mate Eddie who fitted it, repair to the back, wheel with valve at the bottom and we spun the tyre so the writing was the right way up....!!!

Needs a clean now.... Pete

thats attention to detail Pete not OCD.... Whistle

I have commented on autoglass on other threads, but the plaudits seem to be mounting. Basically if you want your screen doing they are the chaps to do it! It is lovely to have a new screen, it amazes me if you focus on an old screen the amount of small pits in it and tiny stone chips. Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

@Haylands Pete firstly many thanks for a superb thread, great & useful information! Smile

I'm intrigued how the windscreen went with Admiral today - as I was on the phone with their policy team today re a new multi-car quote and they were very clear (and treble checked) that any windscreen would be replaced with exactly the same make & model of screen that the car left the JLR factory with...

I suppose that's what I got, both made by Pilkington and the same spec as the original, just doesn't say Land Rover on it...

Apparently the problems have been the glue used to attach the auto wiper sensor lens, on the poorer quality screen it gets small bubbles in and this confuses the sensor, which is your original one.... I had a good look and the fixing on this one looked exactly the same as the original...

Admiral refused a Land Rover branded one, I thought they would on a 14 year old car, but it gave me the opportunity to ask for Pilkington one and that's what they brought, the guy said they do fit others...

He also said that in his experience not many insurance companies will pay for an original on a car over 3 years old... Pete

New seat belt thread

http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic37365.html

Weighed fatty at the scrap merchants and it's 250kg more than a dry vehicle, it had 80lts of fuel and the LPG tank weighs 47kg so it's about 125kg more than stock

It's had a bit of a knock from the front since the last off road outing so got round to having a look today...

O/S/F track rod end was worn out, loads of play... so they seem to last about 18mths with off road abuse... mind you the N/S/F which was changed at the same time had no play at all.... maybe the O/S one was defective from the off... we shall never know... I changed both just to be sure, same Quintin Hazel make as last time, so not cheap and cheerful ones....

I've also had "BONG" low coolant a few times recently so had a nose around and found the bottom of rad has taken some off road abuse and holed, shame as it's not that old, I may get this one repaired and keep it as a spare, going away for a few days on Monday so a new one was ordered, be here in the morning

Also bought a set of these, stainless steel replacement sports cats, don't know what they are like but both mine rattle so they need replacing...

Thumbs Up Pete

Which cats did you get? I may need to do mine if one can't be welded.

And I'm doing my rad tomorrow!
