4.4na jag motor 2005+ - what's the experience

I'm not sure if these were very common to the northern end of the planet. We also got the 5.0na from 2010. The 4.4na L322 seem fairly cheap in oz. As nice as it is, I probably don't need the TR in the 2007+ models.

What are peoples' experience with the4.4na L322
? Simplicity seems attractive to me over the roar power of a 4.2sc. They may be more cost effective than a tdv8, despite the fuel bowser pain.

Any failures or maintenance expenses to report?

I'll probably stick with the tdv8, but let me know your experience just for fun.

Thanks ______________________________

United Kingdom

Hi -
Currently "RR less", but my last FF was an AJV8 4.4 (non TR). A double edged sword for me . . .
Not many here in the UK probably as the SC was released at the same time. It tends to be left out of discussion as thus - maybe an unsung hero ?

Positives : ZF 6 speed gearbox, effortless cruising ability, (largely) reliable, very good fuel economy (averaged 18 - 23 mpg)
Negatives : I found it lacking somewhat at the bottom end. It's hilly where I am and it was much easier to drive as a manual as thus as in full auto it just wanted to default to a lower gear with alot more revs. It was however great on a long run.

The only unusual problem I had (as opposed the usual FF nonsense ie batteries/calipers seizing etc) was temperamental MAF sensor which caused a few running glitches - fixed after replacement.

Worth remembering is this engine was in the "base" car for the ROW (rest of the world) - that's USA/Canada/Middle East/Far East etc - so it couldn't have been all bad . . . !

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

I've got one and I am very happy with it. It's on lpg, has done 80 k mls now and the only thing that went wrong was a dynamo. Very reliable. It's hilly and sometimes realy steep outhere, there I switch to manual, because she will gear down and I don't like the high revving. It's very comfy with all the toys you might want.

I've had 2 Disco 3's with that engine. It's a smooth engine although a bit lacking in low down grunt. Adding the supercharger makes it a much more relaxed drive so I would go for the 4.2 S/C over the 4.4 N/A every time.

Thanks for the replies. It sounds like the SC would be better for the torque, for both on & off road driving. ______________________________

New Zealand 2010 Range Rover Autobiography 5.0 SC V8 Galway Green

I had the 4.2 SC version and did a bit of research beforehand. It is one of the most bulletproof engines around from what I could find. Well designed and developed into a very reliable engine. I would certainly consider the NA but prefer the SC as it has a lovely supercharger whine and the extra torque !! MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Does anyone know why the Jag 4.4 & 4.2sc had such a short production run? ______________________________

Australia 2008 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Rimini Red

Depends on the market , North America kept it until the 5.0L N/A came along with the face lift . In the UK it lasted about two years because people just bought the Supercharged instead because there is sod all difference in MPG and a diesel alternative was available . 2008 MY Supercharged

The 5.0 SC is a much better and nicer car than the 4.2 SC I had.

Excluding the lack of problems (age ?????) I had with the 5.0. The 5.0 has been absolutely faultless since I owned it although it does not see a lot of driving either but still just maintenance (and the brake line recall) and that is it.

As for driving, the 5.0 is more refined, quieter and soo much faster as well. Plus all the enhancements, like Terrain Response (although that started in 2007 if I remember correctly), the nicer TFT screens etc. etc. Plus that mine is an AB (the 4.2 was a "standard SC"). The only thing missing is the upper seat section adjustment that JLR dropped in 2006/2007. The 4.2 had it and the 5.0 doesn't.

But cooled heated seats (brilliant option for me), no more tinted windows (I hate them), light interior etc. etc.

Most obvious is the increased refinement and power/torque.

The 4.2 was a brilliant car because it was my first (not counting my Classic long time ago) FFRR and the 5.0 is just much better IMHO. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Thanks gents.

The 4.2s are a bit over priced, but so are the 5.0 na & sc. which is weird as petrol v8s normally depreciate rapidly due to fuel prices.

I'll keep an eye on prices for the facelift 5.0 sc. However my annual fuel cost is likely to double with that sort of right foot enjoyment, with a flat torque curve. Mr. Green

How do servicing costs compare with diesels? ______________________________

Servicing costs, maybe Craig can help you there but I expect a lower repair bill due to the issues with turbos, EGRs and the likes that diesels have from time to time. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

I have the AJV8 4.4 NA. I really like it. It's very smooth, quiet and never been lacking in power. Yes, the 5.0 and both the SCs have more, but it still has far more than enough. It's also remarkably good on fuel for motorway driving at reasonable speeds.
