I have Land Rover Trackstar (operated by Eurowatch) in mine. If you drive off without the tracker card with you it can be up to half an hour sometimes before they bother to call to ask if anything is wrong. In my Lamborghini I have a Cobra system (which I think is now Vodafone) and I only get about 100 metres away before they have sent a text and then they also call within a couple of minutes.

I was stood talking to a customer the other day when his tracking company called him to tell him his "other car" was on the move without a card! He was advised the car was currently travelling at 118mph on the M5 near Bristol Whistle

Wouldnt have wanted to be sat at his diner table that night! Wifey was out shopping you see Whistle Whistle Whistle Rolling Eyes

I chose LRs TrackStar because head office refused to guarantee that my warranty would not be affected if I fitted a non-approved device. Seems to work well and plots the route travelled every twenty seconds and the only downside is that the separate tag is a little bulky to fit in a wallet.

I had to have an approved tracker fitted as a condition of my insurance and the LR dealer told me Trackstar was the only one that would not potentially invalidate the warranty.

But I have no fob/card as mentioned above.

Just carry on as normal. Maybe different categories of system exist but the iPhone (+Android?) app accompanying it, with present location, journeys, etc seems very good.

It does though allow you to replay journeys showing speeds reached...

My car came with a Trackstar fitted (it wasn't mentioned by the dealer but I found a little card in the handbook).

No card/fob.

Only Cat 5 trackers have the card that you need to take with you. Some insurance companies require this level. Trackstar do Cat 5 and 6 with 5 being the highest level of security.

Or go with Aviva. They didn't require any form of tracking device and there was no discount if I fitted one either , not much of an incentive to help them protect your car from theft though. Surprisingly though ,they were also my cheapest quote. The guy on the phone said they only needed tracking devices on more prestigious cars like Porsche 911s !!! Obviously he hadn't seen the Tracker top 10 list Laughing Steve

Or go for one of these http://www.trackersecurity.co.uk/index.html

No wiring required and very effective. I have one on my Porsche which satisfies LV although it is not Cat 5. But Porsche are very touchy about any alteration to the electrics in their cars and will invalidate the warranty if you do so.

PinPointPal

I had a Cobra unit fitted to my previous car and always wondered if it really worked - I regularly ferry back and forth between UK and France/Spain and gave up phoning the control centre to tell them. Sometimes they would call me but more often than not - they didn't.
So, when I changed to my L405, I looked at the market and saw the PinPointPal - I particularly liked the price compared to Cobra. Thinking there must be a catch, I phoned my insurers (AXA at that time) and they were quite happy as long as I got it fitted by a specialist - no problem for £50. I have since changed insurers to Hiscox and they were entirely satisfied and I am now looking at Chubb who also haven't objected.
I really like the app on my phone which gives me real time info and the website info is scary - 1984 I think. I had a very satisfying moment when having left the car overnight for next day service with a dealer, I checked that evening and found the car was 22 miles from where it should have been - strange says I and I looked at the log the next morning. My car had done 83.4 miles from when I left it at the dealers and had clearly 'gone out on the town' for the evening. I could see the address where it then stayed the night.
You can image the red faces when I went to collect my car and demanded to speak to a Director - it seemed the Service Manager had decided to take it home for the evening! I hope his bit of fluff enjoyed the ride!!
Grovelling apologies and a 15% discount on the service plus a tank full of fuel was offered and accepted. I now put a security ring around the car when I leave it for service and get an email if it has moved.
So, my PinPointPal almost paid for itself. I travel throughout Europe and have never had an issue with accuracy when checked.
I know it's not continually monitored by a security centre but as said earlier, neither was Cobra.

It's called Lamborghini VTS and operated by Cobra (now Vodafone). It was Lambo standard fit for the UK market.
