New Trolley Jack

So I needed to fit my new wheels end of last week only to find my beloved son had messed with toy trolley jack and broke it (technically drained it of fluid and lost the plug..!)

So I need a new one. would something like this be any good and would I be able to lift the front or rear or one side with the attached bar..?

If not, should I just go with something like this

Thanks

(ps I needed up having a nightmare changing the four wheels - it took me over an hour...! There must be an easy way to jack the car up without having to go higher than fully extended airbags.?) Ash

Don't people say the Mercedes Sprinter bottle jack is perfect for the L322?
I need to get a proper jack mine always drops when the FF is on it Evil or Very Mad

I'm interested too as my trolley jack is on the way out (leaking fluid) and it's almost winter wheels (& tyres) time

Ash - why would you go for a low profile one ? I would have thought a high reach one would be better ?

Stacker - The sprinter jack could be stored in the boot - but a trolley jack is quicker if you're at home and keeping it in the garage Thumbs Up

This is what I've used for my D3 and works a treat (not sure I can post direct link to Machine Mart website?)....

Clarke CTJ3000G - 3 Tonne Professional Garage Jack

Cost is currently £107.98 inc VAT. This is 520mm max lift height which you'll need to get the FFRR off the ground!

If I'm changing all 4 wheels I have a pair of axle stands so I can jack up and change both fronts then both backs - just be sure to chock the wheels!

Others may have more relevant info for FFRR.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
James.

£58 on eBay Thumbs Up

I need to check the minimum height vs our Mini, but one of those could be finding it's way into my garage Thumbs Up

Clarke CTJ3000G - 3 Tonne Professional Garage Jack Thumbs Up

This is the one I bought this year for my FF when working on it at home, I also bought a circular jacking pad to avoid marking the jacked areas.

I leave the suspension in standard setting with the drivers door open with of course usual precautions, wheel chocks / axle stands / hand brake on /drive in park pos'n.

I have used it to remove all 4 wheels for various jobs, it has plenty of lift and easily got the front wheels off the ground (locating on front rectangular recess behind front m/flap).

For the rear wheels I locate on the lower suspension arm as close to the hub as possible.

I wanted to get the car up high to do the suspension. 520mm lift is barely enough on the rear of the truck, so i bought a high lift Weber second hand.

It's so nice using a quality jack that's easily capable of the job. It is massive though, so think about where to store it! I have mine stored under some long shelves the end. I bought a pair of extra two axle stands at the same time for £35.

Thanks all

The reason for the low profile one is because I have a CLK as well and its quite low... I struggle with my current one to get under the side skirts (no jokes required at this point) hence the low profile one.

I tried the bottle jack and it didn't look safe to me - the emergency scissor jack worked but was hard work and virtually at its top before the wheels left the ground. only just gave me clearance to swap the wheels...

Cheers Ash

Mine arrived - seems OK, but the release valve is separate from the handle, so you can't just twist to drop - but I can't complain for £58.

I like the carry handle though as I have a gravel drive Thumbs Up

Another couple of weeks until the winter wheels go on and I try it properly
