My range rover has told me it's due for a service it was new in August and has only covered 2500 miles that can't be right can it? The book says 12 mths or 16000 miles 2010 defender utility

Plenty of other posts about stupidly early service warnings. Generally a cock up at the dealers. Book it in to have service indicator sorted not a service. All of mine have given a countdown warning to 16k miles. (I do 20k+ each year so the year interval doesn't apply to mine).
