Very Strange

Hi Steve, you have me wondering - I had never taken much notice before because as fitted (done by LandRover Solihull) the wipers work perfectly. They do almost touch when parked and the tip of the blade almost touches the A column but as already said - they work perfectly in all respects - smooth and silent. My car is Jan 2013 and was a LandRover Director's car (very short woman driver I think) and is immaculate but the sun has now hardened the wiper rubber so they smear - hence the wish to change them. I will certainly fit both sides with 24" because the screen cleans so well with them. Thanks for making me aware. I will try the Bosch blades Alastair discovered and hope they fit OK as I don't fancy LR prices. Thumbs Up
James

Hi James, you've actually got me thinking along switching to 2 x 24s when the time comes as I always prefer as much screen to be cleaned as possible and you have confirmed my thoughts about where the wipers would sit so I know it should be ok (worst case scenario is that I would have a spare 24" which wouldn't really be a problem anyway). Cheers Steve

So do the Bosch ones fit perfectly and as per original design?

Yes - straight swap - they don't look absolutely identical, they are a slightly different style, but are a straight swap & fit perfectly Thumbs Up

Perfect

Thanks Alastair - I have fitted the Bosch Blades - both 24" - and they work perfectly. I do notice that the nearside wiper clears a much bigger area than the offside - the 4" extra makes a big difference (as the actress said to the Bishop)

I hope this helps those thinking of going for the extra inches Whistle

Does anyone have any idea on how to change the rear wiper blade?

Changing the fronts was simple enough, however the manual makes no mention on how to lower the rear wiper arm. 2014 SDV8 Autobiography Cool

Just done mine, bit of a faff - the way l did it was to have the engine running, rear wiper on and open the boot when the wiper was pointing downwards. It is a 17 inch blade with a rather strange fitting which l could only find at a LR dealer and blooming expensive. Unless anyone else has any further ideas.

I've bought a new blade from wiperblades.com for the rear but I can't seem to get the old one off!. It's difficult enough getting it in the right position (opening boot as it's sweeping) but it seems well fastened on there- is there some kind of tab I need to press to release it or does it just pull off?

Mine was a standard fitting - I just got a regular 17" blade like this one Thumbs Up

To remove the old one, I just had to push it IIRC

I'm sure Frank has someone who changes his for him Whistle

I've done it! there is a plastic tab (that looks like a spring to keep the wiper on the screen) - I had to push this down and push the blade up out of the hook.
Phew!

Have used this forum a few times now so thought it was about time I said hello and thank you. Just changed my rear wiper having opened the boot when the arm was at the 6 o'clock position. Amazing that it's such a faff but loving the results of my new Bosch blades (did fronts too).

Thanks for the tip.

David

Choice of wiper blade?

Shortly after buying the L405 I changed the OEM blades over to Bosch Aero. I found the LR ones noisy and the Bosch were OK at first but have since become noisy. I don’t think they are yet old enough (few months) to have worn.

As a D3 owner some years ago I followed some online advice to try Valeo Silencio for the Discovery and they were fantastic. I bought replacements for them many times and was very happy with them.

Has anyone found a brand for the 405 (that’s available in the UK/Europe) that they would strongly recommend?

Has anyone tried fitting the Silencios?

Cheers 2016 SDV8 AB
