Winter tyres for 405

OK so having got a set of rims, now trying to find tyres, problem is size, 255/55/20 are only available from Michelin and Pirelli and are a tad pricey, Nokien and Vred do 255/50, would that be a chrime.
Anyone actually put winters on a 405.

I do - I have Conti Winter 22's Cool

Emperor Mong does as he bought my 21's with Winter Conti's - and Frank does as well - his are also 22's

The 50's would probably be fine, but you should tell your insurance company that you're running a non-standard tyre size.

I run my defender on GG MTs and love them but not sure about this as a winter tyre on the FF. Is it a true winter, I particularly want it as I drive to Austria skiing a couple of times a year, don't want to arrive in resort driving a toboggan. letters not necessarily in the right order

Hi Dixy,

Having done a lot of snow driving (even to At Anton in the biggest snowstorm for years - 2011), you should be fine with M&S tyres. I had the wrangler M&S and had no probs on deep new snow, hard pack snow or other. Obviously if it is very cold then you will get better feel and stopping with a full winter (the compounds are softer) but if you drive sensibly and think and look ahead, you should be fine.

I think the Vreds get the vote on here.
