Which tyre size? 255/55/20 or 275/45/20

Looking to buy a set of new tyres with a bit more bite than the Pirelli Scorpions. as they are getting down

Looking at General Grabber AT's or the new AT3's when they come available (anybody know when?)
Goodyear Duratracs are a too far for my use, any other suggestions

Anyone has issues with fitting 275's? I suspect not, bit thought I'd ask

255/55/20 are +3% rolling diameter and 275/45/20 are the correct rolling diameter to the std 255/50/20.

I have read many of the theads on tyres, and after opinions, have many people had issues with walls cracking with age, these will be my all season tyre, and hopefully give several years service

Thumbs Up Regards

England 2008 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Tonga Green

Hi,

I've just changed from Accelera Iota tyres in the normal 255/50/20 size to the General Grabber AT's, with a 255/55/20 size and so far I am highly delighted.

I am quite a careful driver and don't push the car too hard but I can definitely feel the increased levels of grip from the new tyres with their more aggressive tread pattern. I cannot really tell if the tyres make more noise but certainly after a few hundred miles the tyres have bedded into the car and have improved the overall driving experience enormously. Their appearance on the car gives a much chunkier look which in my eyes really suit the vehicle.

One thing that did surprise me though was how much higher you seem to sit in the car. I know the increase in profile will make a difference but I think moving from a tyre with maybe 3mm of tread to one with 11mm makes a big difference. One downside is that I changed the spare to the new size and now it cannot fit in the spare wheel well without being deflated.

I surpose increasing the rolling diameter of the wheel will have raised the gearing but I have not noticed any significant reduction in acceleration low down. On the motorway, revs will have dropped for the same speed travelled which is a good thing in my eyes.

Overall I would recommend the change to the AT type of tyre 100%. Whether you should go up to 275's I cannot say, but I was keen to retain the overall appearance of the car and thought a wider tyre could compromise that.

Hope that helps.

Paul

Peter Winn Tyres, Pocklington, York.

The advertise them on Fleabay at £555, I just rang them direct for a price (without fleecebay fees Wink )

I also rang AJS the site sponsor were very close on price too, had Thumbs Up they been on my doorstep I would have used them

We had General tyres on the works LR defender, they lasted well @ 40k miles and were in a harsh quarry environment Regards

I've just had a set of Grabber AT3 275/45/20's fitted to my car:

I'm using Nokian WR SUV 3 265/50 R20 as winter tyres, and I think the 265/50 gives a good balance of comfort and grip.

I have 275/45/20 albeit Coopers. I find the profile to low and harsh. As in transferring bumps into the chassis.
What air pressure was recommended by your fitment center?
