Will smaller 18's fit over the Supercharged discs?

Trying to eliminate this drone/noise I'm getting and according to this TSB there can be an issue with the 20" Alloys.

If 18"s will fit, I'll just buy a set to eliminate this as a cause - does anyone know if the 18" alloys will fit over the stock Brembo brakes as fitted to the Supercharged RR?

Thanks.

Compmotive ones should fit, best price I've seen is going direct. I think you'll be ok on an FF but the sport has a weight / damper that needs to be adjusted in order to get it to clear. Ed

Stock LR 18's will not fit.
Stock 19's should fit.

As above, the only 18's that fit are the Compomotive PD1881 alloys. There is less than 10mm clearance around the caliper on them, but they are the business. Allow a lot of different tyres to be fitted. Have a wider offset as well so it sits wider and looks better. (imho)

Regarding the damper weights, these are also fitted to the FFRR in some cases (mine had them) and not just the RR sport. They are metal bars that bolt onto the inside face of the caliper with 2 small bolts. You may be lucky and the bolts undo fine. You may not (like me) and just have to hacksaw the metal that sticks out past the caliper (very easy job). V8 or else ...

I'll only be fitting them to rule them out as the cause of this reverberation through the car - not a permanent change. If it turns out the noise goes away I'll fit the required Harmonic Damper.

Looks like I need to pick up a cheap set of 19's then.

The suspension setting for the supercharged V8 transmits a resonant frequency from the 20 inch wheel/tire assembly to the vehicle body. This resonant frequency coincides with the natural frequency of the body cabin, resulting in the audible drone.

I wonder if lowering or raising the suspension height by a small amount might cure it... do you have an IID to have a play..?? Pete

I still stuggle to figure out how a wheel which should be balanced can transmit vibrations enough to cause a reasonance in the cabin - or that wouldn't happen across all wheels?.

As a very simple quick check, could you try changing the tyre pressures for short test runs. For example, pumping them right up to 40+psi and then down to 25 or so and see if that makes any difference? i.e. have the tyre dampen out the vibration.

If you were anywhere near me, i'd let you try the 18's, but yer miles away ! and with a SC, I aint paying for the petrol Laughing V8 or else ...

I think you might have to be careful over which 19" you go for as well. Post 2007 are all ok I think, the ones from before the facelift may not fit, think it's to do with the curve on the inside of the alloy.

I wait to be corrected though. Ed
