Ireland 2015 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Corris Grey

Years ago we had to do a customs clearance for an aircraft collector in Galway. He had bought a MIG ( not sure which model ) and he flew it back across Europe and had to be escorted by each country's airforce. When he got to the UK he landed at an RAF Base in North Wales and collector was refulled free of charge and asked to fly flat out over the Irish Sea with the RAF attempting to keep up.

He reckoned he gave them.a run for their money even though he was in a dated MIG. When he reached Irish airspace our airforce has only prop powered planes with no weapons so the collecter had to fly in huge circles so the props.could keep up until he reached his runway in Galway where the plane was desomissioned. If I win the euro. Millions a MIG 27 is. Top.of the list

^^ Being a PPL myself, and also having had a lesson in a jet Provost I can imagine the fun that would have been. Just the call sign when talking to ATC would have been enough to prick up a few ears. Laughing

Then the sheer speed of the thing on radar would have made a few more people take notice. Laughing

So, a Russian call sign, with (presumably) an Irish accent travelling at a speed way over what a prop driven thing could do. No wonder the RAF insisted on an escort Rolling with laughter

@Frank. That photo is amusing but I'm actually impressed the camera got a fairly blur free picture with the target actually in sight Laughing

That would be the Pilatus PC-9's with a top speed of 593 km/h (368 mph; 320 kn)

They were bought to replace both the Fouga Magister CM-170 with an earth shattering top speed of 715 km/h (386 knots, 444 mph) at 9,000 m (30,000 ft) and the SIAI Marchetti SF260 with a more modest top speed of 441 km/h (236 knots, 276 mph).
