England 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 V8 Santorini Black
Need a good indie near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.

Just had a bloody heart attack.

Called Marshalls LR in BSE as I'm currently living between France and the UK and need to get a service done on my 2011 Vogue SE when I'm back over Chrimbo for a few weeks.

Wanted them to do the following -

60k service (think it's the B aka 'major' one as last one was an oil service)
Update Satnav maps
Replace the corroded rear window sills under the 7 year corrosion warranty (know loads of forum members have had main stealers dot his for them)
Check front brake hoses as per the safety recall letter I got from JLR a few weeks ago

Chap I spoke to seemed nice enough - said he'd put everything in an email as I'm in France so it's easier.

Here's what I got back -

Quote:
Hello Mr Bonnett,

Thank you for your enquiry regarding your Range Rover,

A major service on your vehicle which also includes replacing all the transmission oil is £1,860 and an MOT is £45.00.

It is difficult to quote exactly the price of the service as I have no history to work from to find out exactly what is required.

The brake hose recall is straight forward, unfortunately I am unable to claim the tailgate trims under the body corrosion warranty.

Regarding the sat nav, there are different types and we would have to see the unit to see which is the process for updating.

£1,860?!?! Shocked Rolling with laughter

And the cheek to quote me that price and say no to the rear window sills? And no price for the sat nav update (ok he says he doesn't know which unit I've got, but he could ask for my VIN and find out).

Not happening. When does the transmission fluid need changing? My car has just done 60,000 miles. Thanks. Past (too many to list, but a few favs)...

Prices vary from dealer to dealer so worth asking around.

For example, I had the map updates on my 2012 and one quoted £170 plus vat and another £220 plus vat! I would say that you should ask what edition map update they are selling because when I had it done about three-four months ago, I got the latest edition which was from.............2014! And they can't say when a newer update will be released so it may be better to hold off.

As for the transmission oil, you could also try a gearbox/transmission factor. I went down to Craig at Caltech who did the gearbox & filter as well as diffs and transmission and he was significantly cheaper than LR who wanted £2400 just for the gearbox....it's the way they charge for the oil, I think.

If no-one comes forward with an indy nearby, let me know because my local indy (near Grays) is good and another forum member recommended a gearbox/transmission specialist on Canvey Island; he does oil changes and flushes.

It look a lot (and is) but I'd get a breakdown of the costs first and maybe source parts from Dan, for example, because no doubt the dealer is including fitting for the rear strips.

You can verify your model sat nav via the link http://landrover.navigation.com/home/en_GB/LandRoverEMEA/GBP but it's probably the same as mine which is a dealer only download and no disc update option.
