How to change the Clarion CD changer.....

Does anyone have any advice, tips, photos or a how to guide for changing the glove box Clarion CD changer as fitted to MY06 onwards with the touch screen /MOST system?

I have the TOPIX guide but its hardly informative. I've seen photo guides for the pre 2005 models but I can't see anything for the Clarion unit and it looks a lot more involved than the Alpine units Rolling Eyes

Also, has anyone used the UK Clarion Service Centre for a repair? It sounds good other than they will only send you a replacement when they have received yours which means I've got to leave the FF in bits for a week while parts are shipped about - hardly ideal Confused

Cheers, Jon.

I too would be interested, as my cd unit has packed in.
looks like its quite involved to get at Crying or Very sad
the other problem being, if sending for repair, the fibre optic would need to be looped to keep the other systems working,
or I might be talking b Censored ks. Laughing
might get another system, as in ipod or such like, cd's a bit outdated now, there's a how to in the wiki somewhere, a couple of hundred quid to do away with cd totally, but for the moment I'll get by, don't know how much a repair is on a cd player.
Greg.

Hi Greg,

Yeah, the procedure looks fairly involved. You're right that once the fibre optics are disconnected the system wont work but I hadn't banked on using the FF with half the dashboard out Confused

The clarion UK service centre have told me that a repaired unit is £250 - pretty good I think but the issue is you have to send them your one first so this means a period of FF in bits..... You can pick up second hand ones for about £150 but obviously cant be sure what you're buying. I'm gong to get mine repaired - the only thing stopping me is the dashboard removal process - I'd just like to understand the process better before I start.

I've also looked at the ipod connectivity, and after much research have just last week opted for a Belkin FM transmitter from Argos for £30. Works a treat with iphones and an Ipod - although the ipod is a bit quieter so you have to have it turned up more on the head unit - fine until your forget that and select a different station! Evil or Very Mad

Let me know if you get anywhere with it and i'll do the same.

Hopefully someone on the forum will have some photos or something...... Razz

Cheers, Jon.

Forget about the CD Changer and FM Transmitters!
I had a broken changer for about a year. FM Transmitter was OK but you miss so much
detail and the Logic 7 can perform a lot better.

Look on the other thread about the Trioma Bluetooth option.
You will get USB, AUX and Bluetooth.

I'm so happy with it and its worth every cent..
I'm using my iphone and spotify and i'm happy with the sound quality!

Yeah I've seen that and already been in touch with Dan - he said the kits are listed from MY07 onwards which is a shame because they are good value. I fancy there will be a software incompatibility around having the AUX function on the head unit before that year.... but I'm only guessing with that.

I had a look at the Trioma Bluetooth unit too, looks an interesting option thanks clemenz Thumbs Up

The Audio Connectivity Module that Dan has for sale will work will on early face lifted models as long as you have the touchscreen MOST based system. Wink

I've just fitted it in mine - See my post in this thread: Thumbs Up

Thanks andy. But mine will still have to wait, he'll probably have sold out by the time I get around to it.

Yes thanks Andy - that's good to know, so it is an option, albeit not an entirely straightforward installation Thumbs Up I'm going to have to change the CD player as well, my OCD cant cope with leaving something in there that doesn't work Rolling Eyes especially when I'm going to have all the dash out Big Cry
Cheers, Jon.

Hi Jon,

With the glove box out removing the CD changer is very easy as its only held in by two screws, one on each side. I found it easier to remove the changer in order to mount the Aux/USB unit in the place shown in the photo.

If you are planning to get the ACM then it would make sense to swap out the knackered CD changer at the same time Thumbs Up

The whole project is not as daunting as you might think but as with any of these DIY jobs it always takes longer the first time but then in most cases you never really need to do it again Laughing

To be honest I disagree with bothering with the ACM faff.
If your pulling the glovebox already I'd do what a few others like me have done and go for something like this.

By far one of the best upgrades we have done! USB extension lead run to the centre cubby box.

Charges phone, BT still pairs with the disco4 module so calls all good and can move around music and see the tag info in the screen as it should be Smile

Be nice when the do a DAB thing for us as well as we are lucky the system is partially shared with things like Volvo e.g. Al! FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
Mantec Sump Guard, Rigid Load liner, MY10 BT upgrade.
