United Kingdom 2009 Range Rover Autobiography 4.2 SC V8 Buckingham Blue
Scissor lift for garage/workshop

I'm building a new garage at the moment and would like to install a scissor lift for raising vehicles when working on them (not enough room for a two-post lift). Does anyone have experience of lifting the L322 on a scissor lift? I'd be interested to know about any issues involved.

Plenty of Kwik Fit tyre places use those. Mine has been on them a number of times without issue

Does your car have the metal side bars like mine?



If so, i'm not sure if they will cause a problem or not?!

Yep, mine has the side tubes - perhaps I will have to take those off when working on it?

Possibly, just thinking about the weight of the car on them, and the possibility of scratching and denting them!

They use rubber and wooden blocks on the jacking points in Kwik Fit. Wood to get the thickness so nothing fouls and then a rubber on top to cushion it all. Thumbs Up

I have one of THESE in my garage.

Mainly used for lifting the Merc to clean it, though I will be putting the RR on it for wheel changes, routine maintenance etc. The biggest cost was raising the ceiling to accommodate the car roof going through it, but it's well worth doing for the time it saves in jacking it up and walking round it.

Mine came with 4 small rubber blocks, though I acquired some bigger ones from the bay of dreams as I didn't really have confidence using timber due to the small footprint it lifts on.

Not had the Range Rover on it yet (the Mercedes has been up on it for the last few weeks with it's wheels off) but it lifted my old Jeep GC without an issue so it should be fine.

FWIW I have no side bars or steps on mine, so it should theoretically be a lot easier to raise it...

Picture below is about the highest I could get the Jeep, though it made it easier to work on, especially when scooting round on a little wheeled stool. Smile

the diesel L322 is 5975 lbs [2.66 tons]
the petrol is 5710 lbs [2.55 tons]

thats unladen and with a full tank of fuel [2010-2012]..

Will do. Hopefully tomorrow as I want to give it a wheels off clean up before a little trip on Sunday.

As I mentioned, I'm height restricted with the interior, though should be able to get the wheels to shoulder height which is usually enough for my needs.

Another couple of shots when I was initially trying it, and before I finished the garage off. The Jeep's not at full height here but the Merc is about as far as it will go before the bonnet catches a light.

Be careful.... the type shown in the OP picture are sometimes not long enough to meet front and rear jacking points together. i am looking to do the same and some of the cheaper ebay ones (£1k mark) are simply not long enough even those rated at 4tonnes. Big Cry

I would have to consider some form of steel square section lengths placed on top of the ramps but overhanging the ramps each end. these could have holes in them to accept the rubber feet if the feet have bars attached to them which many seem to. 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus
