dreaded Steering wheel drop

So after a year of pretty trouble free running I stop outside work, turn ignition off and the steering wheel drops onto my legs. A quick search comes up with the possible culprit and into the steering column I go. Yes the two legs have broken off so I move the brass nut over the remaining two to lock it in the high position. All good. Now my question is has anyone managed to replace the broken legs? My thoughts are leave well alone but if its a simple drill and a couple of self tappers I will do it. The other thought I had was to make a new nut and cut two grooves into it so it could sit between the remaining two legs. 2007 TDV8 VSE

So attached is a video of the column being taken apart to change the bit with the broken lugs. Is this part now available as a spare?

Axle, thanks for the input. I am aware of that part and the seller, there is also a guy in America who makes that part in steel. Sadly that is for the reach mechanism, I need to fix the tilt, a separate motor and drive on the column as shown in the video 2007 TDV8 VSE

Yes I have seen that for sale a while ago and though just way to much. I was going to try and fix mine at the time but ended up locking the wheel in the high position as thats where I have it anyway. An easy fix by moving the adjuster nut behind the remaining lug. 2007 TDV8 VSE

A very good reason to turn off your Steering Wheel park function if you can or a least take off the cowling and give it a good grease. I live in hope a cheap option comes up or someone with a broken column would sell the bit cheap. No real hardship with it no longer moving though just a shock when the wheel hits you in the crutch Shocked 2007 TDV8 VSE
