Flickering Rear Lights

Whilst fitting the rear wiper I noticed that the number plate lights were flickering on (and mostly) off Shocked.

Played around a bit more and noticed that when I started the car for a few secs the high level brake light, low level brake lights and number plate lights were all flickering like a disco - then settled down but no number plate lights.

I am thinking dodgy connection, initially on the upper tailgate loom but once I saw the lower lights flickering maybe on the whole rear loom?

Anyone seen this before, any thoughts (and it has just had a new battery fitted so not that Rolling Eyes )

Cheers,

MM

If you have LED number plate lights then they may be trying to catch fire like mine tried to and also confuse the crap out of your LCM if not toast it

Good point on the profile, forgot to update when I bought the FFRR Thumbs Up (it's a 2006 TD6 BTW)

Yes PO has fitted LED number plate lights - I take it this can cause problems then? Is it a resistance thing like on LED indicator bulbs?

LED's have to be canbus error free and /or with a resistor ( not sure if it's both or one or other , never fitted to mine) and the cold monitoring can be turned off with an iiD Tool . if you are getting deliberate set flashes each time you start up it is just cold monitoring . When I had LED main beams I just let it because it never bothered me . 2008 MY Supercharged

The LCM causes the lights to flash but in my case i was getting all sorts of dashboard lighting errors but none relating to the rear number plate light but i decided to check mine and they had started to burn.

The LCM / canbus checks for a resistance and so as the LED has less resistance than conventional bulbs the canbus type have a resistor added which if poorly done cause cause excessive heat.

Have a look at my twins problem

Thanks for the input, I am not getting any errors at all on IID but will pop the number plate lights out and inspect/swap and report back Thumbs Up
