Start with the obvious - do you definitely have plenty of fuel?

Then start looking at fuel pumps. On the TD6 there was a low pressure one under the sill by the back door and a high pressure one in the engine bay. Presume TDV8 is similar.

Failing that, time to look at injectors I guess, though it would be very unusual for the, to fail suddenly when the engine is running.

None of these easy fixes on the side of the road, though - unless you've been careless and run out of fuel. Current: 2010 Range Rover L322

Start by getting the fault codes checked.

Car was low on fuel yesterday! I don't normally let the light come on! Put £50 in and it went to half tank! Car has done15 miles since adding fuel! Could I have pulled dirt through and clogged the filter resulting in non starting!!
Car has gone to garage on the back of the AA!! Second time in two months................................. burst airbag the first time round!

when was the last time the fuel filter was changed? other than that it sounds fuel pump related, possibly lift pump in the tank. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Car still in garage! Thought the battery had gone so have replaced it!
On firing up this morning it turned over but just filled the garage with smoke!!
Nothing showing up on diagnostics!

Any ideas?? 2007 VOGUE SE 3.6 TDV8

Black smoke indicates over-fuelling or severe restriction of air intake - basically extremely rich mixture. If that's sounds like what you saw, look for injector(s) stuck and pouring too much fuel into cylinder.

White smoke tends to indicate water in the cylinders - so check compression, possible head gasket (or possibly, water in fuel).

Blue smoke tends to indicate the presence of excessive amounts of engine oil in the cylinder. Start looking at compression, perhaps piston rings. Current: 2010 Range Rover L322

Mechanic has just called! Reckons that when he removes the oil filler cap the car runs! Put it back on and car builds up pressure and stops !
He now thinks that one of my turbos has gone! Is that a huge job and is it worth replacing the other one at the same time ?? 2007 VOGUE SE 3.6 TDV8

Not sure that is the answer, and why it runs as he is saying... anyhow someone with more nouse than me will probably have a better idea. Wonder if there is a crankcase breather problem. The crankcase breather/separator is located next to the oil cooler in the vee (behind the oil filter housing) maybe worth checking first.

In terms of if it is the turbos, then one is easier than the other I think and Mikey is probably the best chap to advise as he has done a few iirc. It's not a "Small" job but it's been done by quite a few on this engine now and is probably worth getting both done if you are going to keep it, also get the EGR valves checked over as they can be the cause of the failures in the first instance. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Update!!

Conclusion is that indeed, one of my turbos has gone!! Local Indy doesn't want to do the job! Too time consuming, quoting £6000!!
Car being lifted in the the next couple of days and taken to Mikey! Thumbs Up

Both turbos being replaced and " other bits "

Thanks for helping!

Now we will see how good Olympic Warranties are? I paid extra to cover the turbos Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter 2007 VOGUE SE 3.6 TDV8

Any idea of the cause Mikey? Too much turbo bearing movement or foreign object in the turbo? ______________________________
