TAKEN FROM RRPHIL’S POST ABOVE... I personally agree with the below statement and would NOT use a Britpart filter in my car!!! Rolling Eyes

None of the recommendations mention filter changes.

I would strongly recommend that only a genuine Filtran sump pan/filter should be used as there are a number of cheap(er) pattern parts out there. I notice, for example, that Britpart offer a service kit with the correct fluid

but I have no idea whether the sump pan is a genuine Filtran one or not.

do non OEM filters have reputation or is it just cuz its OEM that we feel it must be used?

Non OEM are built to a price and "their" specification which could be anything!!! The filter paper could be toilet paper or cardboard and you won't know till it either doesn't work and you run the bearings, fails and blocks an oilway or any other type of failure occurs, or it just doesn't filter too well and you wear your engine out faster......

An OEM one is built to a specification and will do what it says on the tin..... Pete

Holy thread resurrection batman!

Just looking at changing the fluid on the ZF8 speed. Thought I'd do a reccy beforehand to make sure its a DIY job..removing the under tray reveals the drain plug which looks easy but I'm unsure if i have located the fill plug correctly. I have the WSM but the diagram is a bit crap to be honest.

I have located a plug about 30mm above the drain plug position in the same corner area of the filter (rear right hand corner of the filter looking from the rear of the car). There is a blue label under the plug but i cant make out what it says. It uses a 5 hex. Can anyone confirm that this is indeed the fill plug. It does not look high enough to me to get lots of new oil in but then again it looks like it could be.

The WSM calls for a special tool but it looks like it could be done with a hex nut and spanner to be honest. Question

Who on earth would leave that complicated bit f kit with the same lube for 144K. Madness. Takes no account of climate, drive style, towing, etc etc. It does not look a hard job to change the oil either. At the MD the cost of the oil is probably twice the labour! A competent indie can do the job. Had mine done by an indie a couple of months back.
The difference is noticeable. Gear changes are quicker and smoother I think.
Had it done at 30k, 55k and will repeat at 80k.
Against the overall running cost of the vehicle, I am not bothered about spending 300 pounds on a fluid change for gearbox and transfer box.
Diffs I did at the same time.

just tripped over this thread while searching for gearbox stuff, I have just been quoted £854 for a double flush by a localish independent. That seems like a lot of money to me? Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE
