Yes, that is the egr delete mod, have you checked the vacuum pipe has been blocked?.
it should be in or around that area. If not check the left hand side as you look at the engine from the front, there is a black vacuum reservoir with pipes coming out, it maybe blanked there. Mine has a blank stalk coming off the right hand side of the egr delete mod, and the vacuum pipe sits on their.
Greg. Thumbs Up

I did have a look for a pipe but couldn't see one, maybe, like you say, it's blocked elsewhere. I'll have a route round for that tank tomorrow. Cheers.

As far as I can remember the EGR delete does throw up a code in the ECU, but unlike most cars, it doesn't go in to limp mode... I get the feeling that BMW didn't rate them as altogether necessary, so they are not bothered if they function or not..

So yes to fault code, no to limp mode and no EML on the dash...the only way that the delete can be detected is to plug in diagnostics... so it's MOT safe too Thumbs Up

I fitted a delete kit that had a tail on the main body for the vacuum pipe, apart from being black you'd have not noticed it looking out of place on the engine, also fitting a delete kit increases the air flow considerably, as the EGR is quite cluttered inside, and the delete is a clean through pipe Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... As I said the BMW part of the system doesn't appear to be that bothered if the EGR works or not, hence no orange light Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

What could be the cause then if you had no EGR blanking kit fitted and you got this error code via the IID TOOL
