L322 DVD in the front

Hi all,

Just bought my first RR. A L322 4.2 SC. Love it!
Couple of niggles but nothing serious.
One thing that's bothering me is that DVDs only play on the rear screen. The front screen constantly says "screen is off when vehicle is in motion" but it's not. Had a look at the diag screens and looks like it's not sensing I'm in parked.
Any ideas how to fix?

Thanks.

I believe it's a combination of being in PARK, Handbrake on and the GPS not sensing that you're moving. Does the binnacle show P when you're in PARK? If not it could be the gearbox selector sensor.

Hi again,

Mzplcg I think you've cracked it! I do get the 'P' for parked on the screen but I don't get the red (P) on the binnacle. So looks like a switch at the handbrake not sensing it on.
Anyone any idea where the switch is and how to replace/fix?

Thanks.

More info.
Had a look under the gator and I can see the switch/lever thing on the passenger side that seems to be the sensor for the handbrake.
However there is a lose wire just in front of it going towards the dash. It's a black plastic coated copper wire, only has a mm of copper coming out the end and I am not sure where it's meant to be connected to.

Any ideas folks?

Cheers.

Solved this!
The random cable floating about under the gator was indeed meant to grounded to the switch mechanism. Connected by wrapping the wire round and taping down. Still a bit loose but seems to be keeping connected for now.

Don't you hate these defiant cars that have alligators on board!? Evil or Very Mad

With my wife's Forester, we need to pull the handbrake up slightly to use the phone or GPS whilst moving. Ron B. VK2OTC

That's weird... presumably it's making contact when it's fully on... might just need a wiggle.

But yes they are defiant indeed! still love it though Very Happy
