Vogue SE SDV8 non-starting issues

Hi there new user here looking for any feedback on an issue I am having. Driving a Jan2016 Vogue SE SDV8

Two months ago I stopped the car while nipping into my parents house and on returning a couple of minutes later it would not restart. It tried to tick over but instantly shut down several times. Called out Landrover assist who where there within the hour and it started first time! Naturally the local garage couldn't do anything as the fault was not diagnosed and would not replicate.

Last week the same thing happened. I stopped car briefly to put letters in post box and it would not restart some 60 seconds later. This time thankfully it replicated the fault when landrover assist engineer arrived and he thought it was a sensor/valve relating to the manifold. As the car was on a main road and still not starting it was collected that evening and taken to dealership.

In the morning it started first time in the dealership and it would not replicate the issue over the three days they tested it. They said that if the fault does not happen in the dealership then they cannot replace parts on warranty. My issue is that as the Landrover assist engineer diagnosed the issue and said he would have replaced the sensor if he had had one in his van (he only had one for V6 engine), therefore they know what needs attention.

They are happy for me to drive again and wait until it breaks down so they can investigate at that time!

Anyone had a similar issue? If so what was the outcome?

Time to star getting firm with your dealer and also getting onto Land Rover. As you say they have diagnosed the problem so should accept responsibility and fix it and why should you be potentially left stranded again, it's done it twice now so more than likely to give up a gain. I'd be moaning rather vigorously if I were you.
Dealers are way too eager to get the car in and out of the workshops too quickly and not investigate issues. Too many fitters and not enough mechanics.

Did it refuse to start, or start & immediately stop ?

I had an issue where mine would instantly stop - due to freezing - details here

Take a video of it when it happens again and show it to your dealer. 2014 SDV8 Autobiography Cool

Thanks for your comments. I happened once with each key as it happens.

I do have a video of it happening and as it was diagnosed I am going to contact Landrover direct if they are truly not allowing the dealer to fix under warranty.

I am not sure of the receiver location, but if it's a case of the dash being removed, it's a job the dealers seem not to like doing on the 405.

If the fault is identified, it would seem your dealer is under an obligation to correct this. Hopefully LR will intervene on your behalf. Interesting to see how it develops.

Under the customer rights act/ sale of goods act you have a right to repair, replacement or refund, as they have declined the first ask which of the others they have chosen. Should focus the mind a tad. letters not necessarily in the right order

Did LRA run diagnostics and check for stored DTCs? I would expect that some for fault code would have been logged?

I've just seen this. My MY2015 4.4 SDV8 wouldn't start on two occasions after I bought it 3 weeks ago. It turned over fine and if left for a few minutes would appear to fire and nearly start.

LR Assistance came out and diagnosed a sticking air shut-off valve (silver thing at the front of the engine in the centre, high up). He took it off, cleaned the gunge inside and it has worked ever since. My car had hardly been used for a few months prior to me buying it, just moved around at the dealers and short test drives. To quote the technician: "I've had them like this before, I'm 90% sure that's your problem". It has started every time since.
