Grateful (again) for some advice.

Recently had the in tank fuel pump replaced on my 2004 L322 V8 Petrol. Fuel gauge was showing just under half full when the job was done. Not put any petrol in until today, filled it up until the pump cut out (i thought it was taking more fuel than it should to fill up) and a chap behind me shouted out I was losing fuel. Petrol was pouring out from underneath the vehicle in the petrol tank area. I must have lost all the fuel I put in, gauge now just below half way point and holding steady, I can't see any obvious drips of petrol.

I've filled the vehicle up quite a few times and never smelt petrol inside or outside. Would have thought I'd lose the whole tankful if a hole had opened up at the bottom of the tank.

Any advice will be very gratefully appreciated.

If they've missed the other end of a pipe it could be siphoning out......

I've got a feeling it could be pump installation related. This could be just a 'red herring', but no signs of a fuel leak overnight, but since my first post 3 things occurred:

1. Fuel gauge was showing just less than 1/2 full yesterday afternoon, then all of a sudden it started reading full ??

2. Raised rear sear seats this morning and started the vehicle, fuel pump sounded a lot noisier than normal for about 30 seconds (might have sounded louder because I had the seats up).

3. Took it for a short run, pump made a noise, so I pulled over and had a look underneath, and sure enough there were drips of fuel.

Found the cause of the leak - fuel pump gasket (Click 'Gallery' button to see the pic).

When the tank is full there must be enough pressure to force (a lot of) fuel past the gasket.
