But is it a proper Range Rover? Too many offsprings branded as a RR but there's only one in my opinion. Velar is certainly a very good car but it should be called Land Rover Velar.
The only reason it wears the RR badge is for marketing purposes, the asking price is higher branded as a Range Rover than it would be wearing only the Land Rover badge, that's a fact.

What he said....

Whilst they are busy trying to cash in on the investment in platforms and technology they are now seriously running the risk of devaluing the Range Rover brand.

That's a different matter...

However, as I understand it, LR wish to take the full fat into the super-luxury bracket to compete with that thing from Bentley and whatever Rolls brings out. If I read the article correctly, in terms of the current line up, the Discovery will move up the range to take the place of the full fat.

Mere mortals will have to be content with the Range Rover (insert name here) badge or a Discovery badge if this is the case.

Should this all come about, the current arguments over marketing and name assignment will be a mute point.

How can you bring the FFRR in the super luxury segment while you're devaluing the brand using the Range Rover moniker on lesser cars that have nothing in common with a Range Rover other than the badge solely for marketing purposes.

I doubt the arrival on the MY18 will hit earlier models by much as regards additional depreciation. Every make/model of car goes through lifecycle changes & these don't vastly impact the earlier models. A totally new flavour would have an impact but I'm hoping the L405 will be the default FFRR for. Number of years yet. Paul
